Quote : | "The Greatest Boys McDonald's All Americans list, includes some of the top names in men's basketball history, and features past and present Olympics, NBA and NCAA stars. The players were selected by members of the McDonald's All American Games Selection Committee. In determining the list, all past McDonald's All Americans were considered based on their high school careers and performances in the McDonald's All American Games, success at the collegiate and professional level, and post-career accomplishments." |

The most decorated and honored player in North Carolina Tar Heels history, Hansbrough was the first player in ACC history to not only be named First Team All-ACC four times, but to also be named to a First Team All-American squad in each of his four seasons. He was also named ACC Rookie of the Year in 2006 and ACC Player of the Year in 2008, while sweeping all national player of the year awards that year as well." |
WTF. He was a good college player, but what has he done as a pro? He seems to stand out in that list.
[caveat] I watch almost no NBA so I may have no clue what I am talking about and may just be reacting as a jaded state fan. [/caveat]
Did he WILL himself into the top 35?12/23/2016 2:35:45 PM |

just a quick glance at that list, and giving it no thought whatsoever, JJ Redick (his name on the wiki page as a past MVP caught my eye) should be on it over him. i'm sure there may be other names more deserving than either. but you could say Redick had a comparable college career but definitely gets the edge when it comes to NBA.
yeah hansbrough hasn't done anything of note in the NBA really. he was a great college player and is the all time leading scorer in the ACC. so you definitely can't knock his college career. but i'd be interested in seeing who was left off that top 35 list.

I think he should make this list solely because of his reading of chicken little. 12/23/2016 6:32:53 PM |

If he had played for duke he would be remembered as one of the dirtiest players in the history of the game. 12/23/2016 6:58:22 PM |

He couldn't play for Duke. They wouldn't accept someone as dumb as him. 12/23/2016 7:52:49 PM |

^^ true. At least Sean Dockery learned to read by his junior year.

No, I agree (and I think he is a pretty good guy too -- JW that is). Hate him or not, though, Hansbrough is ridiculously decorated in college. Both easily deserve to be on the list if it was solely about college. But they just don't fit when you look at their careers in aggregate and the rest of that list.
Hansbrough, because his game would never translate; Williams because of a brain dead decision.
[Edited on December 28, 2016 at 5:45 PM. Reason : Trey Burke? Wat. Good player but no Jay Williams (or Redick. Or Hansbrough).]12/28/2016 5:44:20 PM |

See, I don't think hansbrough was that talented. If refs would have called a tenth of the traveling violations he actually committed he would've have even averaged 10 points a game. He didn't translate to the NBA because he couldn't take acc refs with him. 12/28/2016 6:23:27 PM |

Why are Lebon and Kobe and KG on that list? They didn't do anything in college! 12/28/2016 7:08:59 PM |
