Charles Johnson cut, as well as Kurt Coleman

It's almost like this isn't the same Hurney as his first stint..

The more I hear, the more I think Star will be back and Norwell gone. Reading into Hurney's quotes, it seems like they feel a lot more comfortable with Moton taking over for Norwell than they do Butler taking over for Star. Might be because of injuries.

I think they should sign one of the recent RB cuts to fill the Stewart hole. Doug Martin would be my first choice. He still runs hard and would come very cheaply (considering his age and talent level). Chris Ivory could be a good bargain bin-type signing if not.

Norwell is gone, they don't seem to have any interest in committing more money to the guard position.

Kalil isn't getting cut, he is retiring after this year, no reason to cut him.

That's been due IMO. I like Stewart, but he's done and has been done for awhile.

Stew is one of my favorite Panthers of all-time, but even I recognize the business sense here.

JStew getting cut was no surprise.

Charles Johnson who is just not good anymore should have been cut. Coleman is inconsistent but was a locker room leader so we lose that but not much else. I don't know if Captain was only here on a 1 year contract but if not his ass should be cut too.

Stewart was easily the worst starting RB in the NFL last year. Bye.

and yet I'd still rather a geriatric STEW carry the ball than CAP, Fozzy, or CMC.

(admittedly I'm coming around on CMC, but he's still got a lot to prove.)

There are guys who could be had for a minimum deal who would be better than Stewart.

better than a 2 yard loss, which is what CMC produces 75% of the time he tries to run between the tackles.

I'm pretty confident that he's not going to be running between the tackles much next year.

Marty can trade a few first rounders to get Barkley

I think you mean to get a 2nd rounder.

I know we're trying to get younger, and RB is a fairly easy position to draft and find a serviceable guy, but wouldn't mind giving Chris Ivory a look.

Seems like a pretty terrible trade at first glance. Giving up a sometimes starting CB on a rookie deal for a declining WR who was going to be cut, and taking on $4m+ in the process. It can be debated whether Worley was any good, but there's still no reason to make this deal that I can see.

Worley wasn't very good. Other teams constantly picked on him, and he seemed to be in the doghouse most of the time with Rivera. I think he could have been a decent safety, but he isn't quick-twitch enough to be a good CB.

Smith still has some juice left. We needed speed and a deep threat, and that's exactly what he brings.

Terrible trade. Smith has had a very average NFL career, and his only notable accomplishment is torching the NC State secondary.

^^I mean, he did have 1,000+ yards in 2013. And he's only 29 years old. And he's still really fast. We needed a deep threat, and that's Smith's forte.

torrey smith probably isn't gonna solve all our offensive problems...but worley wasn't very good. i don't see this as a bad trade. just a meh trade.

^Pretty much sums it up

Torrey does have 2 Super Bowl rings though and he has slightly better career numbers than Ted Ginn

It's obvious Worley wasn't in the long term plans for the team, so might as well get a commodity for him. Gettleman only drafted Worley because retard gettleman's ego let a pro bowl corner walk instead of keeping the tag on him.

Did you see how much Watkins and Allen Robinson just signed for? I doubt we could've signed Smith for the 2 years / $10M we got him for.

Worley had basically lost the starting job to a 6th round pick anyways. Trading him for a bigger, younger Ted Ginn is a win.

Breeland is a huge upgrade over Worley.

Yeah, I didn't really like the Smith trade in a vacuum, but now that we've signed Breeland I can see the plan at work. The top free agent WRs were always going to go to teams with more money to spend, and there are bargains in a deep secondary free agent group. We should look at defensive line too.

WELP.

this story is odd, though.

Quote :
"Breeland told ESPN he cut the heel of his left foot on March 4th while in the Dominican Republic, where a golf cart hit him in the back of his leg and re-opened a wound first suffered in the fourth grade."

Like, what?

Think he got a cut on his foot and was lazy enough to let it get infected. Read it would be a few months before he passed a physical.

I, too, would be excited at the prospect of Goodnight becoming an owner.

As a former student in the NC State Statistics department, I would very much approve.
