Set hundreds of years after the original Mass Effect series in the Andromeda galaxy, from a mission that was launched during ME3 as a last resort in case the Reapers won.

Oh my god this combat video looks so fun. The team responsible for the awesome ME3 multiplayer is developing the combat for this game and it looks amazing.

Was going to play this right at launch but Nintendo had to go and release Breath of the Wild a few weeks earlier. So that will be occupying my time for most of March, but then I'll be moving straight to ME Andromeda on my PC.

Bioware RPGs just pretty much automatically get my money. Had this preordered as soon as it was available.

I don't think the campaign is co-op but there is some sort of multi-player link to the campaign via side missions or something like that.

Something I never thought I'd say before ME3 came out, but I'm actually looking forward to the multiplayer in this as much as the single player RPG.

ME3 has the best horde mode multiplayer I've ever played.

ME1 = good lore/universe with tons of potential, ok RPG system with cumbersome inventory management

*EA BUYS FRANCHISE*

ME2 = SEXY TITS ASS AND EXPLOSIONS IN SPACE... + Filler story
ME3 = SAME THING EXCEPT shit we forgot about the story... uh pick an explosion color!

Story aside, ME3 had the best RPG mechanics to go along with the best shooting gameplay.

10 hour Origin/Access trial just started but there was no preload for the trial, and it's a 55 GB dl. I live out in the country so it's gonna take me about 12 hours to download, but I'll get into it after work tomorrow.

Heard the first few hours are a slog...but that's usually par-for-the-course for Bioware games. Also, apparently menus/UI could use some tweaking too.

Can't play u til after work but everything I've read and seen looks like the game is good but has Mass effect 1 level facial animations for some reason.

Eh, even ME2 and ME3 struggled some.

The bioware style has always had some bad uncanny valley moments, see Dragon Age too.

Facial animations have never been their strong suit.

Prob part of the reason their human characters often have masks and helmets and stuff covering their faces. But still, ME1 came out in like 2008 I think so they really should have sorted something better out by now.

I've played about 3 hours and I'm feeling all the same hooks I get from any good RPG.

No doubt though it would be considered slow to someone who isn't the biggest fan of RPGs with a lot of exposition. I spent probably half of that first 3 hours on the nexus (new citadel) just talking to people and solving quests that didn't have any combat.

Also anyone who misses the traditional RPG mechanics of Mass Effect 1, they are back in a BIG way. Prepare to navigate some menus.

EDIT: Also no doubt about it, the facial animations are terrible. If that kind of thing bothered me a lot this could be a deal breaker. Also heard a lot about bad writing, but most of the writing is fine with some notable exceptions. The colonial adminstrator on the nexus is a standout of both poor animation and cringeworthy dialogue. Some lowlights include "Sorry, my face is tired from dealing with... everything" and "I refused to call him Pathfinder until he Path-found something"

lol so is there tedious exploration of planets in the Mako only to find a base that looks the exact same as all the other planets with the only reward being a sniper rifle less powerful then the one you already have?

Mako missions were tedious/repetitive... but mainly optional, and gave a sense of scale to the game I think.

Better than "mineral scanning" mini game or whatever the fuck that shit was.

ME2 and 3 abandoned the RPG aspect of the game. ME1 you could actually customize your character in depth... and if you could get over the shitty UI you could do some cool shit with weapon customization.

^ Yeah and you could kinda just brute force it and just take the newest stuff if you didn't want to think about it that much.

Who are all these people who play Mass effect focusing on the human characters anyway? The alien characters are sooooo much better than the lame humans in each iteration. My squad was pretty much always Shep + Garrus + (Krogan/Solus).

Femshep x Garrus forever.

About 10 hours in, its definitely not better than the previous 3 in my opinion. The graphic complaints are spot on. This is some of the worst character modeling I've seen in a while. The facial expressions are just baffling at times. The planet resource mining part is something I absolutely loathed in Mass Effect 1 and I absolutely hate it in this one too. The combat is fun. The open world exploring is fun. The amount of weapons, armor, character powers, etc is a bit overwhelming but fun. The story is meh so far and most of the characters on your team are completely forgettable.

Early rating for me is a 7/10.

^ Pretty accurate.

I'm enjoying it for what it is though, another Mass Effect game. It doesn't reinvent the wheel by any means, but for me Bioware RPGs are like pizza...even if it's bad pizza, it's still pizza.

That video is scathing. I especially like the ending when it shows all the companies EA has consumed and shit out.

I lol'd so hard when the Asari girl had the gun pointed in the wrong direction.

So apparently Bioware was taken over by Marxist SJWs pushing their agendas into a game... I guess that explains why they are going to shit.

^^Lol kinda, you have to watch the travel as you move between planets in the system.

And not even the major planets you land on but the ones that take like 2 seconds to scan and you never leave the overmap.

Actually what he's referencing are the growing number of articles and youtube vids regarding the Bioware employment of supposedly "unqualified people" for roles such as graphic designers and writers based on their social media presence and political views. Specifically, people are focusing on Manveer Heir (who I am not a huge fan of) and a few other people (some with supposed feminist agendas) that were given "important roles." *shrugs* I don't know if it's their fault but Bioware is apparently trying to fix things tomorrow:

Released a patch that changes the eye shading and improves some facial animation. The changes really aren't that big but it makes a huge different. You can't tell how bad the eyes screw up the whole face until you see them fixed. Also allows you to skip the travel scenes between planets.

Here's a comparison of the most notorious of Andromeda's dialogues https://youtu.be/_TUO-GNI1U8?t=1m8s
