I don't believe Keatts should go to Pitt, but their T's are deep.

Because he got us in the tourney, Keatt's contract was automatically extended 1 year and he got a raise of $110,000.

+110,000 credibility.

+5 for getting his team to the tourney in year 1

-5 for having players waste energy on a weak press

+cred for making the tourney and making this season much more fun than any of us expected. I’m eager to see how this team looks next year with even more of KK’s guys and more time in his system. There are obvious concerns defensively and with rebounding. I think some of that can be corrected/improved with better personnel

Bitter end but he was ahead of schedule this year. Want to see how he addresses some schematic issues after turning over the roster. We know he's good, but is he system good or actually good? Can't really tell with the roster issues we had this year.

^ agreed. Next years team will be a lot of new faces. But it’ll be more guys he recruited for his style. So hopefully the personnel matches what we’re trying to do better.

We scored 83 points in a NCAA tourney game in a season where we started not even good enough for the NIT.

Good job Keatts, but now the bar is set.

Good regular season, much better than expected. Postseason was awful. I hope he comes up with a better defensive plan for next year. If he is going to stick with the full court press we need to get so much better at getting back because I got tired of seeing our big men left 2 or 3 on 1 for an easy layup.

I'm a little worried about Keatts with the way the season ended TBQH. Lowe and Gottfried both overperformed their first years too, and those teams got better in the postseason, not worse.

Pretty terrible to close the season losing those 3/4, but I'm still pumped for next year.

i think you're putting too much stock in the last 3 losses of the year. and, tbh, Lowe and Gottfried's year 1 success has really no bearing at all on Keatts's first year or any year going forward. especially considering that Gott took over a much more talented team.

i'm not saying KK is above any form criticism. i just think it's really premature to be worried about his future because his overachieving year 1 team ended the season with a couple bad games.

Relax guys. Our best and most consistent offensive players this season were AL "NO NO NO YES" FREEMAN and OMER "soft as charmin" YURTSEVEN.

Both of them were big negatives on the defensive end. Both of them probably gone next season.

I'm as disappointed as the next guy with how our season ended, but there are a lot of reasons to have hope for next season.

-We give Abu's and --bless his heart--narddog's minutes to two capable and highly athletic freshmen bigs. They both rebound and play D at minimum.
-We replace Al's and Yurt's come and go offensive production with more balanced scoring from Bryce, Daniels and Dorn (maybe Batts figures out how to shoot over the summer)
-Markell Johnson takes full control over the offense as a Junior and Beverly becomes the second unit spot shooter he was meant to be
-Another off-season of Keatts conditioning and defensive schemes.

^^I agree with a lot of that, but it is a little concerning that all our bigs are unknown at this point. They could be a step-up from Lennard and Abu, and they could just as easily be a step-down (Abu was an athletic high 4-star and was ranked the 2nd best player out of Massachusetts- Goodluck Okonoboh was #1).

I honestly cant see how the new bigs could be any worse than Abu. Worst case scenario would be they are the same.

Lennard never had the size/athleticism to compete on a regular basis in the ACC. Both of these kids do.

If they can rebound and play average D, we are already in a better place. Losing Yurt's offense production in the front court will hurt but I think our new guard talent will make up for that.

I really do wonder what happened to Abu. Was it his injury? Did he get lazy? Did he not mesh well with Keatts? He seemed to be just as passionate as ever with his cheering/celebrating/interviews, but he definitely regressed this year, he just seemed to constantly make silly mistakes. His senior season was his worst at State.

Everyone keeps blaming the injury, but was Abu really that much better last year or the year before?

I know he had more points, but I think it was more because we had no other options than any amazing skill he displayed.

His bball IQ has always been pretty questionable, but my guess is someone got in his ear and told him he needed an outside shot for the NBA. So he started cranking more long 2s this year and didn't make many.

His D got exposed because Keatt's system seems to require more from the big men. Gott would have his guards going under screens so the bigs just had to show on a screen and then run back to their man and help defense rarely happened.

With Keatts, the bigs often switched on screens and then had to constantly make the weak side rotations--especially when Abu and Yurt played together. That lead to lots of Abu being out of position and dumb fouls.

He seems like a nice kid, so I don't want to shit on him too hard and I hope he can find a place playing ball overseas.

Yes, he was. Comparing this year to last year:

FG efficiency: -12%
FT efficiency: -22%
Points/Minute: -16%
Rebounds/Minute -9%

^^ Noone is arguing that statistically he was worse this year. I am arguing that he was the same player skill wise, he was just a better fit to have good statistics with Gott than Keatts. Alot of it could just be because he played alot of 4 with Yurt at the 5 so he was farther from the basket. He took more long shots. He guarded (very loose definition of this word) smaller guys.

I mean, his defense, shooting and bball IQ have never been great. His hands are god awful.

Rebounds per minute played...as opposed to per game. since his mins/game have dropped off so much, it wouldn’t be accurate to compare stats on a per game basis.

^^^Exactly. Have to base everything on averages to compensate for significantly less playing time. Like how ERA is per every 9 total innings and not per individual game, since the number of innings pitched in a game varies so much.
