When I see somebody asking for money in Raleigh or Durham I generally think they are just bad off and feel sorry for them, maybe throw a couple bones their way now and again.

Was just up in Asheville last weekend and I guess it's the bohemian thing they have going up there but got accosted for something almost every other block and with maybe one exception I was just thinking these assholes need to get jobs.

That's a pretty shitty way to beg. Although i used to give money to one dude in Raleigh who was like "I'm not gonna lie, I'm gonna go get a drink with this". Used to regularly see him outside the ABC store as well. Honesty is such a rarity these days.

I once had to go to the gas station on the corner of Hillsborough and Gorman street to take out $20. I thought I had enough cash to cover the Waffle House (this was before debit cards were accepted everywhere). I left my gf at the time there to go get the cash. A homeless guy approached me as I was coming out of the gas station, asked me for some money, so I said sure, all I had was a couple of bucks - truth. I'm fishing in my pockets for the money and he saw that I had a 20 with the singles, and got irate. Got between me and my truck and said "I thought you only said you had a couple of dollars."

I had to threaten to call the cops for him to let me in my vehicle.

That was the last time I attempted to give out money to homeless people.

With one exception - there was a guy in Miami who made insects out of palm fronds. I felt like I was paying for a good, so it was ok in my book.

I had a crunchy looking dude barter a "crystal" (chunk of quartz, size of a quarter) for my leftovers in AVL almost immediately after I walked out of the restaraunt. Best deal a bum has ever offered me, I took him up on it, but later was thinking: was that guy watching me eat my meal the entire time I was chilling in there

Before Sushi Nine burned down, Sonia and I went for dinner. Parking was always bad over there, so I had to park on the street behind the restaurant. It was dark when we were leaving.

As we were crossing the parking lot, a panhandler approached us. Well, he really approached me. He asked for money, of course.

Thing is, I recognized the son of a bitch. He'd approached us the last time we'd gone to Sushi Nine! Sonia had asked him what he'd do with the money, and he said he would probably go up to Pizza Hut to get some dinner. She'd told him that if he'd walk up to Pizza Hut, we'd follow as soon as we were done saying goodbye to our friends and buy him a pizza. He said he'd do it, but he just sulked off and did not go to Pizza Hut.

So I called him out for that. "First of all, man, we said we'd get you a pizza, then you disappeared. And I waited, and we looked inside for you. And second of all, you're out here getting between my lady and my car. How do you think this is going to go?"

So he was all man fuck you anyway and fucked off. Fuck that guy.
