Didn't get the NES, but this one has arguably the greatest game of all time - A Link to the Past. I might have to shell out for that one alone.

I still don't understand the demand for these things.

I still have a working NES and SNES with plenty of games and most of the games I have nostalgia for. Any other games an emulator works just fine, but honestly I never get the urge to fire up an emulator anymore.

Allow me to reiterate for you:

Quote :
"By the time you purchase a Raspberry Pi and the accessories required to hook it up to your TV and load games from external storage, you will have spent as much or more than the NES Classic costs, and it will have taken up more of your time and energy than playing NES games is ultimately worth.

Not to mention that downloading NES ROMs and playing them on an NES emulator is, you know, illegal. I know a lot of people don't care about that, but there it is. Nintendo is very clear about it: https://www.nintendo.com/corp/legal.jsp

I'd be willing to bet that an equivalent Pi setup would consume more power than the NES Classic as well, but that's just a hunch, and I could be wrong.

Point being there are valid points of differentiation from ye olde college student's first emulator kit, and there's a real market for this device."

Quote :
"Man nobody wants your old janky gigantic-ass stupid Xbox sitting on their entertainment center. They want a cute little mini-NES.

They don't want your ol' bullshit 10,000 games no one could possibly give a shit about. They want 30 games they remember playing. Who on any Earth in any universe could possibly want to turn on the TV and browse through some fuckin' file browser on their TV of seventy fuckin' unlicensed European games starring an egg who plays cricket? Who's beating a path to your door for Golgo 13?

Nobody's fuckin' with no goddamn Game Genie code. Y'all don't understand how little patience people have for nerd bullshit.

That's the core thing, man. Not only is your jury-rigged emulator kit dumb and not easy and not fun, cats also gotta post up LOL EMULATURRRRRRRRRRRZ JUST DO [X, Y, Z LAME NERD SHIT] FOR SEVENTY FIVE CENTS AND IT'S JUST AS GOOD, and that shit isn't true, fuck you, seriously."

I don't understand why these are not wireless controllers. Sure nostalgia, but who sits 5 feet away from their TVs anymore?

^^not sure if that article was alluding to this but it can also be difficult to get old systems working right on hd tvs

somehow this gets me the motivation to go back and play these games too, and that game list is awesome, I'm def bummed at around 5-10 games being left out (bomberman multiplayer come on now) but still great list

Hell, it's not just the really old systems. When I got my first HDTV, I hooked up my PS2 via component cable and thought I'd play a little of the first Guitar Hero. There was terrible latency between my input and the video which made the game completely unplayable. Turns out that almost all HDTVs do all this video processing on signals that aren't at the set's native resolution to upscale the picture.

Newer HDTVs will have a game mode that disables this stuff, and that reduces the latency. Some games let you adjust the audio & input latency to compensate, like Guitar Hero 2. But it really cramps your experience for older consoles unless you're willing to get an old CRT TV or one of those really fucking expensive upscaling boxes (they upscale a lot faster than the television itself will, which I hear helps tremendously but haven't tried for myself, because I'm not a rich idiot).

The main draw for me is the StarFox 2 and the other Super FX games since those never came to Wii/WiiU VC for some reason. Hopefully shipping it in September will mean less stock problems.

Maybe I seemed a little harsh in my first post. The problem for me isn't the console itself. I'd gladly hand over 80 dollars for this. I'm just pissed at Nintendo for the way they did their classic. Was the classic worth 60 bucks? Most certainly. Was it worth the 180 that the aftermarket price seemed to settle on? Not really. For 180, the emulator discussion starts to make more sense.

Dont worry guys, I am gonna let you guys get in on my racket. I managed to scoop dozens of NES Classics , and I foresee my strategy netting me a few SNES minis no problem. I will make sure that everybody in this thread gets their grimy paws on one. Just make sure to check this thread regular for my updates.

It's time for me to give back to the little guy. Remember where I came from, before I got rich selling Tens of NES minis.

Preorders went up on Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy, and Target and they sold out within minutes.

Gamestop is supposed to start taking preorders in-store today. I called a Gamestop near my job and they already have a line.

Most likely Gamestop will be taking preorders through the website today and Toys R Us will put theirs up soon too.

LOL already a clusterfuck.

I would legit buy one of these but they are really making it easy for me to just go grab a bunch of roms right now instead of having to deal with this.

^Well with the NES I had basically every game in that list as a physical copy but I didn't originally have an SNES so I'd don't mind paying for legit copies at that price point. But they are making pirating easy here but not actually selling enough to meet demand.

The inevitable markup makes both of these pipe dreams. They should seriously make a few million more units, they could easily sell them all.

i preordered 2 at walmart. 1 for me and a friend (not to resell). i got an email yesterday saying that one of them was canceled because or preorder limits which is bs.

i can understand if you order like 10 of them, but 2 really?! they shouldn't even let you preorder more than 1 if this is the case. and to only let me know a day before it is released too. now my friend is stuck without one when if he knew sooner he could have preordered one on his own.

also, my card hasnt been charged and i havent gotten any sort of shipping confirmation so i doubt i will get the one i am supposed to get. walmart is so dumb
