It's 2017, so the line between politics and entertainment exists no more. Legit thread.

Good show. I'm fine with the ending, though it looks like they were leaving a window open for another season if anyone wanted to renew it.

I fairly enjoyed this show. I liked it quite a bit actually. I love the performances and how they take their time to really develop all of the characters. What is interesting to me is that this show is really more about beaten down people trying to chase their aspirations than it is a fish out of the water crime drama. The FBI agent, the preacher, Darlene, the hot cougar owner at the blue cat, and of course Marty and his wife trying to keep their family normal and in tact: they are all just torturing themselves trying to accomplish their lofty ambitions. It is funny to me that the only people that are really at peace are the two main drug villains, Jacob and dell.

Finished it. I dug it.

I agree with most of the reviews that state the show is trying too hard to be Breaking Bad, but in BB's absence, I'm ok with this. There are a couple of little plot holes, but none that I can't look past.

I liked it a lot. One of the better Netflix original series. The ending was meh.

Of Netflix Original shows, I'd rank them

1) Narcos
2) Stranger Things
3) Ozark
4) House of Cards
5) Last Chance U
6) Orange is the New Black

^^ I agree.

At their core they are both crime thrillers, but BB was about a guy with an amazing product trying to make as much dough as possible, and Ozark is about ppl trying to survive. whether that be the preacher, struggling business owners, the FBI agent, or the Byrd family, they are all drowning in misery. If anything this show reminds me more of True Blood than BB.

I just finished S1. Not bad. I give it a solid B. It's no The Wire, Sopranos, GOT, or BB; but it's way better than The Walking Dead/HOC stuff.

One thing I noticed was the casting. Very normal looking cast. Almost strange it's so normal. Not one super-hot chick on the show. And I love the strippers with gunts, preggos, saggy tits. Real people.

But Laura Linney's white, pasty legs disgust me. Daywalkers.

The episode with the poppy field is the one that got me. They showed an agent picking up a burned poppy, yet that went nowhere - they would have done analysis on it and found that it was indeed a poppy. Plus, all that was left of that field, after burning, was a darkened level ground. A real burn would've looked a lot different.

Plus, there would have been death records for the Snell's family. They could have found where the family was buried and would have seen that they were dug up.

^of all the things in the show that aren’t plausible you went with uneven ground after a burning?

Show is ok. Worth watching if liked breaking bad but what gets me most is how they throw money around like it’s nothing. I get the need to launder it and there are costs to that but the cartel is going to have like 500k in clean money by the time it’s all done at the rate they are going.

There's all kinds of small little cemeteries on family plots from 100's of years ago that people wouldn't have a paper record of so that's not unrealistic. Jacob said they had to relocate the bodies at one point due to flooding as well.

I agree with you about the poppies though the field was a little too obvious with the CGI work.

Finished last night

SPOILERS

Some of the story lines like simply ended with no follow up. After about episode 5 the 2nd casino and baby custody thing just dropped away

It took me about 4 episodes to finally warm to Ben, only to have him turn crazy stupid before he was killed

I can’t stand their phone ettiquette. All about hanging up on some motherfuckers

The episode he was kidnapped to Mexico was probably my least favorite

Darlene and ruths brother fucking was seriously wtf-ish. I liked when his brother went to Ruth and after some trepidation is like “i think they’re fucking”

I figured Erin and Jonah would have hooked up. Speaking of Jonah, dude sprout up like a foot it seems like. Reminded me of Barron Trump

First 3-4 episodes almost felt like a whole bunch of nothing. Its like all this consternation about 2nd casino, when in the end it went through. And then led immediately to a fbi audit. It was huge “well no shit Wendy” type moment

Psychiatrist was dumb for buying the car and even dumber for asking for more

Helen wasn’t as icy as last year. But def obvious she was gonna get offed

Navarro is not how I picture a cartel to act etc. Ordering cutting off balls of stud was pretty hardcore

Would have liked to see at least one follow up scene after husband of 2nd casino accodentally knocked his old lady down the hill into the water

KC mob boss son was such a chode, I liked when he got his dick shot off. And when Ben put bird food all over his car. And when Ruth threw him off the boat

Thought bitcoin might have had a bigger roll, like maybe Marty found way to launder with it

Wonder whats gonna happen with dude that seems like a goody-goody that kept losing large sums of money

The slot machine scam to fuck over owners who didn’t sell to Byrdes seemed fake as fuck

If Marty is such a good witness for FBI, i feel like they’d offer a better deal than 18 months. Preggo FBI lady needs to figure out a way to let him do his thing and just arrest someone else

End spoilers for now

^I agree with almost all of that. I found this season great though. This is very much reminding me of Breaking Bad.

This whole resurgence of Darlene is going to fuck them to high heaven.

But the preggo agent... it seems as if he is finally manipulating her like the mexican wants, just still in the early stages.

we have to wait a yearish to get more of the story ugh!

One thing that I've liked about every season was Bateman's total commitment to this role. He went all in on this one, and that is only mirrored by his character who is also as equally committed to his current situation. You can tell just by his coldness, that Marty new about all of the messy potential with the Ozarks and goes through with without hesitation because that is the only way that he gets to enjoy the next day with his kids. He knows all to well that it could all break down at any moment.

Just finished it yesterday and agree with most points in this thread.

Quote :

Yes, my thoughts exactly. In S1, Marty was acting out of desperation, doing everything within his power to save himself and his family. He didn't want that life but knew it was the only way things would work. Now it seems he is starting to realize how much of an asset he is to the cartel and is taking pride in how good he is at what he does, with Ruth being the Jesse Pinkman-like character.

Also thought the cab opening monologue scene was really well done. I was hoping Ben would stick around longer. One thing that really stood out to me-- when he first started going off the rails, he clearly KNEW that he was getting bad. Why wouldn't he just start taking his medicine again? When he was on the medicine he was a perfectly normal and likeable guy.

^ I have a cousin that is very normal and a great guy when he’s on his meds. When he isn’t he is fucking insane and has been institutionalized and thrown in jail multiple times because of how crazy he gets. I can’t understand how he can’t understand how important those meds are when he is seemingly so normal when on them but it’s pretty much a lost cause at this point.
