Yes, usually in a Manhattan or boulevardier. Occasionally neat if I'm sipping it as a nightcap. I don't have the palate to have a preferred whiskey, but I usually drink bourbon or Rye. Frequently Woodford or Eagle Rare. Evan Williams is great for mixing tho

Haha. Hahahahaha.

[NO]

Flying airplanes, racing cars. Those are expensive hobbies. I mean, I guess there is some super-expensive boutique whiskey that costs $100 per ounce, but with a $20 bottle or a $50 bottle, that's a dirt-cheap hobby! Even if you're doing $250 bottles, unless you are doing a lot of them, that's still nothing. (It may be exorbitant relative to the value it delivers, but it's still cheap in absolute terms, if you're calling it a "hobby.")

If morning's a bitch with open arms and night's a girl who's gone too far
Whiskey's harder to keep than a woman and it's half as sweet but
Women without whiskey, Women without whiskey
Whiskey's hard to beat

I drink George Dickel, Tin Cup, and woodford and typically in that order (George most often followed by tin cup, etc). For birthdays and holidays I'll often get something more top shelf than those, but those are what you'll find in the cabinet 9x out of 10.

I usually do one or two ice cubes and a splash of ice cold water. I don't really consider myself an aficionado by any stretch.

Lagavulin is certainly my favorite, but I usually only buy it once or twice a year. Woodford double oaked is probably my second choice.

Had Pappy 20 year about a month ago. It was great, but certainly not worth the price tag.

Trying some Buffalo Trace tonight. It came recommended by the ABC store personnel.

Can't remember if I heard about picklebacks on TWW or overheard people ordering and talking about them at a bar one night. But either way it sounds disgusting.

I did a variation of a pickleback with jager and pickle juice. I survived.

I like to use Rebel Yell for easy mixed drinks and Woodford Double Oaked when I want to get a little fancier with said mixed drinks.

My best top shelf stuff is this Woodford Reserve Master's Collection that was finished in pinot noir barrels. I might have a shot every six months.

^^ yeah I love pickles but don't think a pickle back would be that enjoyable

[Edited on September 16, 2017 at 12:40 AM. Reason : ^ rebel yell is decent over ice imo, but I usually mix it]

Expensive is a relative term, so you can't define it in absolutes. It is cheap compared to flying airplanes and racing cars (presumably your hobbies) however still can be expensive compared to other people's hobbies. Sounds like a humblebrag.

^^^ "Expensive" may be a relative term, but across the scope of things that people do as hobbies, sipping whiskey is at the inexpensive end of the scale (at least in the way any normal person does it. Sure, there's probably someone out there who's a raging alcoholic with lots of money, who drinks a $250 bottle every day.)

Hey whiskey man, you're running as hard as you can,
You drink your whiskey too much more than you can stand.
You have your highs, you have your lows,
Nobody knows which way you go.

Whiskey man, don't you play that hand too long.
Whiskey man, don't you play that hand too long.
It takes whiskey to make you tall,
You ain't so very damn tall at all.
You start to get straight, then you get weak,
Can't you see your on a loosing streak.
You have your highs, you have your lows,
Nobody knows which way you'll go.

Whiskey man, don't you play that hand too long.
Whiskey man, don't you play that hand too long.
Hey don't you know,
I use to be there myself,
I tried to kick the habit, baby, with nobody else's help.
I have my highs, I have my lows,
But nobody knows which way I'll go.

Whiskey man, don't you play that hand too long.
Whiskey man, don't you play that hand too long.
Whiskey man, don't you play that hand too long.

I've gone to ordering Trace online from Caskers. They're shipping is half that of WoodenCork. Costs 18.99 to ship 3 bottles...not too bad considering you can never find it in the ABC stores around here.

They came in yesterday, with no one here to sign for the package, so I guess nobody really cares if you're 21 or not.

Also got me some TakeFlight glasses from Amazon, they don't seem to be anything fancy but right now I've got nothing to drink it from other than regular drink glasses.

I think the 'rona made carriers relax signature rules for packages in order to limit exposure risk for drivers.

So for Father's Day I'm thinking about asking the fam for a nice bottle of something. Basil Hayden or Tin Cup?

^^Yes! It's a few more dollars expensive per bottle, it's 27.99 right now and I think it might be 24 at the ABC store, and then shipping....it was 18.99 for 3 bottles (I got some for the neighbors, they weren't all mine), but it beats the ABC stores getting shipments 2 or 3 times per year.

I've gone from being a semi-regular Maker's drinker to a semi-regular Bulleit drinker.

I used to only drink Bulleit in old-fashioneds/Manhattans, but it's great with cola on its own. I think I just like ryes better these days.

ABC store down in Carolina Beach has the widest selection I've ever seen in NC

Seemed like they had stuff not normally stocked in NC but I'm probably wrong there

ryes have a little too much of a bite for me. Just picked me up some tincup, it's a mix with half rye I think. We'll see how it goes.

Anybody ever watch whiskey vault on youtube? A co worker told me to check it out. It's kinda funny. It's like Frasier and Niles discussing wine, only it's not Frasier and Niles and it's whiskey.

And I don't care how much whiskey I drink, when I smell whiskey, it smells like whiskey. There's no way I can pull all those notes out of it like they do.
