Don’t think anybody really wanted Lowe. But since he was a member of the title team he was welcomed with open arms...especially moreso than some other last resort with no connection to the program.

Anyways, that was a fun Loyola game.

yeah I think if I went deep enough into my post history, or many of y'all's, we were really trying to grasp straws at the idea that he was a fit. it was a shitty, embarrassing search but I'm grateful he accepted because, at that point, it was damage control.

Lowe was a proven terrible coach in the NBA and had exactly ZERO experience as a college coach. I would argue it was the worst major conference hire in recent history.

worst hire based on results or based on his resume prior to being hired? because yeah...he was unqualified. but based on results (his were very much bad) i would say jeff bzdelik was worse.

lowe coached 5 years, bzdelik coached 4. but here is the comparison

Lowe: 86-78 (.524), 25-55 in ACC (.313). best ACC finish was tied for 9th at 5-11. made it to NIT twice. had two 20 win seasons, and sub .500 seasons.

Bzzzz: 51-76 (.402), 17-51 in ACC (.250). best ACC finish was tied for 9th (twice) at 4-12, then 6-12. never made any postseason. had one winning record (17-16 in his last year).

both were taking over teams that had made the NCAAT the previous year.

Resume. Sidney Lowe should have never been even a last resort candidate. And he was hired by a "basketball guy" in Lee MF Fowler.

Bzdelik had earlier success at Air Force, but was pretty awful at Colorado. But Ron Wellman is an idiot who fired Dino Gaudio after he went 61-31 in three years following Prosser's sudden death. Ron Wellman doesn't know shit about basketball and firing Gaudio only to replace him with Bzdelik clearly showed that.

I think both of those hires ended up equally bad. Both set their respective programs back years from where they were. Goddammit I'm in a bad mood now thinking about all this shitty basketball.

This Texas Tech/Villanova game has been pretty ugly recently. Lots of bad shots and missed bunnies. Also the one white guy for Villanova had a pretty nice dunk where he leapt just outside the lane and one of the announcers said “he has deceptive explosiveness.”
