Braxton has been looking better, but I still think he's the most over-rated player on our team. He has big splashy moments and then will be mediocre again for a while.
That being said, tonight and vs UVA and kinda vs GT he's seemed to have found his groove more 2/6/2020 9:50:36 AM |

Overrated by who? Maybe Keatts. None of the fans really like the guy although that's less because of this season where is minutes have been more moderate and we have noone else anyways and more because of last season when he was playing 30 minutes a night and we end up watching his terrible shooting slump throughout the heart of the ACC schedule and running off Harris in the process(who would be hugely helpful depth this season btw).
I think he is a fine role player as a spot shooter but a poor defender. And he seems to be a tough kid who has been asked to fill too big of a spot on this team--either because of Keatts hard-headedness or because of personel needs he can't help. It's a shame. 2/6/2020 10:41:52 AM |

Harris ran himself off by being a walking turnover. Honestly it wouldn't surprise me if he doesn't start at A&T next year.

Yeah I've got tons of friends who've liked Beverly for one reason or another for 3 years now and I've just never seen it. A lot of girls who've got crushes on him but also some guys who just remember his clutch factor in games like Clemson last year, etc, and forget about everything else.
Reasons for liking him aside, I think he could be a much better shooter if he didn't try to break the land speed record while taking his shots and take a minute to set and get some accuracy. It seems like half his shots come from some wild jumping throw that invariably misses ~90% of the time but looks cool when it works I guess. 2/6/2020 12:03:11 PM |

Blake was transfer happy, so who knows what would have happened during the summer anyways. And you can say what you want about him being turnover prone last year, but when you barely see the floor, it's not uncommon to try to do too much which can lead to turnovers. Meanwhile he was a better shooter than Beverly last year, and a MUCH better defender. I'm not arguing that Harris should have played over Beverly, but there should have been a more equitable minutes split between the two.
I couldn't (and still can't) figure out why Keatts loved Beverly so much last year. He played BB more last year (he led the team in minutes IIRC) when we were running full court press and we were deeper with ball-handling than he has this year. He single-handedly shot us out of games last year. This year's minutes are much more in line with how he can contribute I think.
Anyways, I wasn't just trying to shit on Beverly, but I think there would be more positive opinions of him if he hadn't been given a bigger role than his skill-set deserved last year.2/6/2020 3:28:49 PM |
justinh524 Sprots Talk Mod 27840 Posts user info edit post |
Harris played the least minutes of anyone on the team by a considerable margin last year. If anyone should have taken Beverly's minutes it was Lockett. Harris was turnover happy in his time at Missouri as well. Your argument is we should have given more minutes to the point guard who couldn't dribble? I shit on Beverly as much as anyone (probably more) but Harris getting any of his minutes would have been a TERRIBLE idea. He has proven at 2 different high major programs that he shouldn't see the floor at any such program.
I can't figure out why anyone (you) loves Harris so much. He was bad and I'm pretty sure his "personal reasons" for transferring were that his feelings got hurt because he didn't play and wasn't going to play much this year either. I honestly think the plan when he transferred here was for him to be the primary backup PG and for Beverly to play off the ball, but then he got here and was just awful so that plan went out the window.
And as far as far as being a better shooter than Beverly last year, HE TOOK 19 THREES. I'm no statistician, but I'm pretty sure that's not a significant sample size. For comparison, Beverly took 219.] 2/6/2020 4:39:18 PM |

I'm not even sure what we are disagreeing about. I don't love Harris and I shed no tears when he left although I do think had he stayed, he would have helped with our depth problem this year. We literally can't even play Keatt's signature full court press because we don't have enough bodies.
Are you suggesting that it wasn't absurd that Beverly led the team in minutes last year? Because that's really my only point. He gets hated on because he had an outsized role for his talent. He had more minutes than MARKELL for chrissakes. I'd say even this year he is probably playing a few too many minutes, but given our lack of depth and the injuries, we haven't really had a choice.
If you are arguing that last season Locket should have gotten a few of those minutes then fine I guess. Basically I would have been happy with any combo of players taking about a third of Beverly's minutes. That said, in the interest of defending Harris a bit for a moment, I'd still argue that Harris was not put in a position to succeed. In his limited minutes, he was one of our most effective on-ball defenders. He obviously had turnover issues when he was primary ball handler (which is generally what he played), but if Keatts had let him play off ball like Beverly got to then he probably has less of a problem there and he was a serviceable shooter. 2/6/2020 5:16:10 PM |
justinh524 Sprots Talk Mod 27840 Posts user info edit post |
My only real point is that Harris was bad enough to not take any minutes from Beverly and even I, the biggest Beverly hater here, could recognize that. He wouldn't be getting any more playing time this year than he did last year because he'd still have the same problems, that being he was a giant black hole on offense.
I am glad he is gone because he was a waste of a scholarship. 2/6/2020 5:21:25 PM |
