He's definitely been declining, at the very least I think the Chargers will be looking for his replacement in the next draft.

4500 yds, 28/10 td to int ratio. Pro bowl. Declining? Lol. They may draft his replacement because he will be 37 this year...but his play this past year was as good as his prime years

Yeah right now they have Cardale Jones and Geno Smith battling to be his backup. Neither one of them projects to ever be their starter. Rivers has 2 years left on his contract I think, so I definitely don't see him retiring before that's up. I think he plays one more after that and hangs it up. Despite the fact that the chargers have the worst owner in the NFL, they still have a pretty talented team right now. I don't think Rivers hangs it up while they're a playoff contender.

And LOL at him declining.

It is amazing how perception isn't always reality. Texas A&M is a program that has grossly underachieved for much of this millennium. We have the same number of final AP top 25 finishes as them since the year 2000, despite them having much better facilities, talent and funding.

NC State Final AP Top 25 rankings since 2000:
2002 - #12
2010 - #25
2017 - #23

Texas A&M Final AP Top 25 rankings since 2000:
2010 - #19
2012 - tied for #5
2013 - #18

Sorry random thought as I saw they are ranked in some pre-season polls and it feels like they are always being ranked in the pre-season, but rarely live up to expectations. People see them as a much better program than us although recent history says they aren’t that much better especially considering how many inherent advantages they have. There are just a few programs out there that you feel like “I’ll believe it when I see it” when it comes to results. Clemson used to be this way before Dabo got them rolling. How many times has UNC been referred to as a “sleeping giant”?

Jimbo Fisher is why they are overrated, although he hasn't coached a game yet.

Even before him they would constantly be overrated until they started to lose a couple of games. Just because they have a huge stadium with a great atmosphere doesn’t make up for their lack of player development and poor coaching over the years. Since the end of the R.C. Slocum days they have been like us perpetually in that 7-5/8-4 type season with a few bad seasons mixed in there with some outlying great seasons sprinkled in here and there too.

Can someone explain how TA&M has the 2nd highest athletic dept revenue in college sports, behind only Texas (see The Longhorn Network) at $211,960,034. The next highest (3rd) is TOSU at $185,409,602.

By comparison we are at 47 with $83,741,572. The highest ACC was FSU at #13 with $144,514,413 in revenue.

If you click on the school name you get a breakdown of where all that money comes from. You'll notice the contributions for TAMU have been insane for the last few years. https://www.texastribune.org/2017/06/22/ballpark-figures-texas-m-reigns-uh-gets-boost-texas-college-sports-rev/ turns out that's from donations paying for their latest stadium upgrade (from what I believe is the largest booster club in the nation)

^Feels like that article would have been relevant a week or so ago.

Right now we have Reggie, Robinson, and Person back in practice. Not sure about Pennix but we have at least 3 options at RB before we get to a walk-on, and I think Pennix will likely be a go before next week.

Good article here on the open scrimmage Saturday that only students were able to attend. Addresses ^, ^^

Quote :
"It looked as though everybody was finally back healthy which is a great sign. Nakia Robinson was getting reps with the second team and Ricky Person was replacing Gallaspy every so often with the starters. Both looked very explosive as a change of pace back to Gallaspy. Person had a really nice run where he used that explosiveness to get out to the edge and make his way in to the end zone. Who ends up getting the majority of those backup snaps will be something to watch early on this year."

Found it interesting that Miller was getting first team reps at CB. Thought the battle was between Trowell and Ingram...so maybe Miller has been a pleasant surprise.

It’s game week. Get the dang thread going

^Think Ingram has a minor injury, but sounds like Miller, Smith, and Ingle all had really impressive camps.

Doubt anyone would have said we'd be looking at playing 3 CBs early and none of them being Graves or Palmer.

Had a parking pass last 2 years, but without one this year....where are my options? I've parked in the office parking lot near the Edwards Mill/Trinity intersection in previous years, but was wondering if there are any alternatives.

Depth chart out

Witt starting RT
Emezie earned the OR with Louis
Miller and Ingram still OR at corner
Moore over Acceus
Murchison as 2nd DT

I think those are the big ones for starters

I counted 7 true frosh, including Dunn

Can someone explain the significance of OR to me? Is this the optional redshirt thing or is it just "or"? What am I missing here?

Think of it as "co-first string" instead of first string then second string. So the surprise was that there wasn't clear delineation as there was with Harmon and Riley, for instance.

I see that Leary and McKay are the OR at #2 QB. i'm guessing that's mostly to take advantage of the new redshirt rule...Leary might get some in a few games. but i'm pretty sure that the plan is still to redshirt him.

Last night's Wake Forest game when the QB threw interception but his knee should have been Dale reminding me of a time that NC State did something similar but I can't remember the details. Didn't we have something where rivers or somebody completed a pass with his knee down but they let it stand and we barely won the game?

Based on what you saw today predict the rest of the season.

9/1/18 - James Madison - W (24-13
9/8/18 - Georgia State - W
9/15/18 - West Virginia - L
9/22/18 - @ Marshall - W
9/29/18 - Virginia - W
10/6/18 - Boston College - L
10/20/18 @ Clemson - big L
10/27/18 @ Syracuse - L
11/3/18 - Florida State - L
11/8/18 - Wake Forest - W
11/17/18 - @ Louisville - L
11/24/18 - @ North Carolina - W (Doeren always seems to get them up for the UNC game)

6-6 (3-5) and some crappy bowl

We have to find a running game if we are going to get to .500 in conference play this year. I know JMU is a great FCS program. They would likely have finished with 2 conference wins if they were in the ACC which would be good for an FCS program. I know they could probably have beaten Pitt, UNC and UVA last year. Maybe I am overreacting based on it being both the first game and a scorching hot noon game.

I think the RBs will only get better with time. Two guys getting carries down the stretch were true freshmen. I’m not pumped about today’s performance...I’m just optimistic the D and run game will improve.

Yup. Settled for a FG and fumbled another time in the red zone. Like last year, need to improve red zone efficiency.

I do wonder if the heat made both teams sluggish and as a result made there be less plays in the game versus games in October and November. That would be a pretty good study in terms of number of plays per game versus kind of weather. It did seem like a kind of low scoring game.

No doubt JMU is a great FCS program and would beat many of the lower tier Power 5 teams and a number of the Group of 5 teams.
