We've only got a couple small parks down here around wilmington. I hear the place to go in SENC is in Elizabethtown. Me and some buddies may do some day trips up to Harris Lake or Uwharrie or something.

August 2016 on the right. November 2018 on the left. I didn't start until March 2018, but that's the most recent decent before pic I have. Still have a little ways to go.

Down 130 lbs. I can do a 30 min 5k on the treadmill, just need to push harder when I'm running outside.

Being from there, it's weird to see anyone say Elizabethtown is the place to go for anything. I do enjoy the Melvins burgers though. Some of my friends ride bikes and are from Bladen County. The Elizabethtown trial is pretty intense from what I hear. I think they go to Wilmington a lot though.
You've made really great progress, it's very inspiring.

I'm down 28 pounds since mid-September. I've been doing keto and limited exercises. I'm not allowed to lift weights and my neuropathy keeps me from running. It's pretty frustrating, but I'm walking up to 5 miles and doing 20 minute workout videos. I'm not used to being so out of shape, so weak. I am currently doing physical therapy to help get my balance and strength back. They're really impressed with my progress. In September I struggled to walk to the bathroom, so I try not to be too hard on myself.

Thanks guys. Almost to -140 now. Feels great. Still got about 40 lbs to go. When I get to my goal, I'll have lost half my starting body weight.

Mountain bike finally shipped and should be here this week.

I recently bought a stationary bike off of Amazon, in anticipation of not wanting to go on actual bike rides during really cold days in the December-February range. Got it about a week and a half ago and have enjoyed the few "rides" I've had so far. I would always rather go on an actual bike ride or run than use a stationary bike or treadmill, but it's pretty easy to not want to go outside and exercise if it's 40 degrees and rainy, for example.

^^that's why I got my direct drive trainer. It's the Wahoo Kickr. I use an app called TrainerRoad that lays out a training regimen for you based on your goals. It's awesome and I'm riding the same bike I'll ride outside. Takes up very little space when the bike is off it.

^thanks

it's pretty simple, really. i just count my calories. i eat whatever i want as long as the calories stay under my goal.

I didn't get my Garmin watch until June. Here's the data since then. The general rule of thumb is a calorie deficit of 3500 kcal will yield a pound of weight loss. The predicted line is my weight at the beginning of the month minus [(calories burned from Garmin minus the calories I logged in MyFitnessPal), divided by 3500].

or

Predicted weight = begining of month weight - (cal burned - cal consumed)/3500

The system works.

[Edited on December 19, 2018 at 4:31 PM. Reason : had to get all enginerdy on it]

it's also interesting to note that my actual weight has been almost perfectly linear when tracked monthly (obviously there are day to day fluctuations up and down and plateaus that last nearly a week, etc.). That makes sense because I've continuously increased my exercise load as I've lost weight and become fitter.

[Edited on December 19, 2018 at 4:34 PM. Reason : adsf]

so I guess my point is that you can remove all the myths from weight loss and just boil it down to math and time. you can set a goal of X weight by such and such date and science will pretty much guarantee you will meet that long term goal as long as you meet your daily goal every day.

another cool thing is that tracking like this gives you the ability to quantify your cheat meals. want to bust your calorie limit by 1000 calories? if you're on a 1000 kcal/day deficit plan, then you added a day between you and your goal. do that once a week for a year and you added 52 days. or you can think of cheats in terms of exercise. at my size, i burn about 500 calories per 30 mins of running. hardly any 1000 calorie splurge is worth an hour of running. fuck that. makes the decisions easy.

I like your approach. One of my good friends lost a similar amount of weight and leveraged the exact same system to do it. How do you account for caloric intake when eating out and at friend's houses? For the latter do u take your own food or just estimate?

MFP has an extensive, user-created database, so I just estimate. I don't eat out very much now.

Pretty much everyone I’ve seen lose weight like NRR has used the same approach, it’s not sexy but it definitely works. I was 245 at my heaviest and now I’m typically just below 195 and pretty much all I did was track my calories and eat less. I did it for so long I don’t really need to anymore to maintain, been a couple years since I tracked and haven’t gained anything back.

i hope i can maintain without logging. logging only takes a few minutes per day at this point, but it sucks to think i'd have to do it every day for the rest of my life. i'd do it if that's what it takes, but i think i'll be able to get by without it eventually. i guess the worst that can happen is i see my weight start to creep back up and then just start logging again. i'm definitely not going back.

maintaining this new more active lifestyle should make maintaining easier too. i actually have hobbies that burn calories now.

Exactly! I hate running, as I assume more do, but mountain biking for a few hours burns a ton of calories and is fun as hell.

I don't have much to compare it to except a ride on a 27.5"+ full suspension bike my buddy let me borrow one day. You definitely have to treat it different than the FS bike, but I really like it. Plenty of traction and the plus tires make up for some of the lack of rear suspension. Gets around the tight, rooty trails down here just fine. I need to learn to bunny hop and get my front tire off the ground for some of the bigger roots and obstacles. It's an awesome sport, though. Your mind gets so focused on the trail that you forget you're getting a workout.

I'm starting to develop my old man strength. I hit a PR this week with a 1RM on bench of 455, while my 10RM on bench has decreased almost 30lbs since I hit my last PR of 450 on bench 4 years ago. The 455 attempt didn't even feel all that heavy, whereas in the past I always hated maxing out because of how heavy everything felt on my joints.

I need to focus on cardio next year, because my endurance is lacking. I get winded on high rep squats regardless of weights recently. That and losing weight are my main focuses for 2019.
