I used 8 clicks on the javapresse. And way too much water. Also, it probably didn't steep long enough.

I can't believe the message boards and discussions people have around an aeropress. Kinda cool.

how did you use too much water with an aeropress? Fill it up to line 4, stir, wait, stir, plunge. how much coffee are you using? I tend to go with 18-19 grams for the aeropress.

grams? What's up with all these grams. Why don't people use ounces? You Euro or somethin?

he's saying that he made his coffee with the Aeropress, and then poured more water into the coffee after it was brewed, diluting it. Then it tasted watery.

I, too, had trouble when I first brewing with my Aeropress. When I first started using it, the instructions that came with it showed how to do the right-side-up way. You get a much better cup if you steep upside down and then invert to press into the cup.

^^I think people use grams to get a more consistent ratio of grounds to water. It's sort of like baking by weight vs baking by volume

So I was dumping the used grounds from my aeropress tonight, and noticed a lot of variance in the ground size from that conical burr grinder I got. So I'm wondering if maybe something is wrong with it, or if this is normal?

The image in my gallery is much larger.

We have an old Cuisinart burr grinder, I think the DBM-8 or whatever the predecessor of that model was (it's 6+ years old). Seems to do a good job and you can get it on amazon for $40.

Gonna try grinding beans in the vitamix tomorrow and see how it goes. Have the dry goods container so figure why not. Have a refillable k cup to test it in. As for beans, either getting lavazzza espresso or kirkland colombian

Yeah no on the vitamix. Coffee tasted good though. Have a javapresse being delivered today, picked up a cheapo 4.96 cordless drill at walmart. Can’t wait to give it a try. Got some kcup paper filters just in case it comes out super silty

Old thread alert.

I picked up a Baratza Encore a few months ago after being frustrated by how terribly inconsistent the Oxo burr grinder was. I also picked up the M2 Burr upgrade, so it's effectively a Virtuoso without the "fancy" timer. Works great!

finer isn't always better

and a vitamix sounds like a terrible solution for grinding coffee.

You want a burr grinder that doesn't generate much heat and grinds the beans to a consistent size.

Def can see myself getting a better option down the road, took all of one try with vitamix dry goods container, and although its kind of neat to use a drill and manual burr grinder, would rather just pour beans in and press a button. I have to fill javapresse completely full twice to get 1 cup of ground coffee for my 64oz thermos(or growler as costco calls it, which i haven’t been too thrilled with…coffee not hot enough after like 3 hours, label said keeps warm for 12)

Wouldn't a vacuum seal pull out all the volatile compounds? Maybe you could store grounds in argon and not have the taste go flat.

I grind right before making and everything I've ever read about coffee says that you shouldn't do otherwise if you want the best result.

I only grind right before I make it. I wish I could find a decent grinder/maker combo so I could program it to be ready when I wake up, but every model I find is very expensive and doesn't seem very reliable.
