One of the richest [old white] dudes in the world says "I know how I’d feel if I was in the situation he is"

Seems totally authentic.

Quote :
"“Every time I see him, I just come away more impressed. He’s very intelligent. [It] makes it clear to me we have to do something with criminal justice reform.”"

Only intelligent people deserve to not be over-sentenced.

^its more an indictment on how bad this group of QB's is IMO. How often do you see the top QB's in the draft basically sucked in college? lol They just went with a guy who actually was good in college.

Sadly, i dont think mayfield is gonna be good in the pros

Yeah I think the main thing is like a week ago he was gonna be the 5th or 5th guy taken. Could work out but it just smells like bust. Maybe not as spectacularly as a Manziel but you'd think they would want a safer choice.

there's no such thing as a safe choice and there are "draft experts" that will argue that any of the 6 QBs are going to have the best career

Mayfield was a 70% passer last year. He'll be fine in the NFL.

He got shit on because he grabbed his nuts once and he's 23 and all the other guys are younger. He's the best QB in the draft. IMO it goes Mayfield, Rosen, Darnold. Lamar Jackson is a wildcard, because he could have a Michael Vick-like impact on a team, but he's still a super raw passer. Allen is the guy who looks like the perfect QB but in reality is terrible.

all the QB's in this draft are garbage. All the highlights of these QB's are of them running out of the pocket and throwing. Not a one of them has highlights where they're in the pocket making throws downfield. Pathetic this is all they have

Johnny Manziel was also a 70% passer his last year in college. He was not fine in the NFL.
Brandon Weeden was also a 70%[+] passer his last year in college. He was not fine in the NFL.
Tim Couch was also a 70%[+] passer his last year in college. He was not fine in the NFL.

^^^those guys are the exception and not the rule. I'm just saying, IMO Mayfield is the best QB in this class. His biggest flaws are that he planted a flag on an opponents field and grabbed his nuts. With Tyrod Taylor and Mayfield as their QBs (and Hyde + Duke at RB), look for Cleveland to play mostly spread/shotgun to play to those guys strengths. I think he fits what they are going to do much, much better than any of the other guys (although Jackson would be intriguing although he has massive bust potential.) Being short isn't nearly as detrimental to QBs in the modern NFL where more and more snaps are taken from the shotgun

Darnold has some serious questions about his decision making and ability to read defenses, not to mention he has a slow ass release.

Rosen is probably the best of all the QBs at the mental aspects of they position but he has the worst arm of the big 4 and has injury issues. I still like him a little better than Darnold and way more than Allen.

Allen is the classic "guy who looks like a great QB". He's Jake Locker. He's Christian Hackenberg. He's every 6'5 QB with a cannon for an arm who has crashed and burned in the NFL. 56% passers don't usually improve in the NFL, especially when they didn't improve in college.

In fact, they're the rule when it comes to BCS-era Browns first round QB draftees. There are plenty of additional 70% exceptions drafted by other teams if you wanna go there

His off the field behavior and physical attributes leave much to be desired as well.

I'd rather have the Heisman trophy winning 70% passer than the guys who have ~20 turnovers apiece, but that's just me.

No one thought 30 year old rookie Brandon Weeden was going to be any good. And Manziel failed in the NFL mainly because he's a damn headcase who was hard to coach and would rather party and be on TV than get better at football. Mayfield doesn't have the off field issues Manziel had, that shit is completely overblown.

Except Cleveland, who took him in the first round.

Cleveland gets the gold with shitty QB drafting, and starting QBs in general. Maybe this pick will turn the tide...

Mayfield also played in the Big XII where defense is like 15% of every team's gameplan.

After trying to run from police while being drunk and disorderly in public, one cop was enough to tackle him harder than any Big12 D-line has. I do not see the NFL going well for him.

Err, but they clearly did have a highlight or two of him against us. One when we were in black uniforms and he dropped back and kept it and ran right up the middle of our D. Though they did make a point to show Chubb taking Lamar down a couple of times in his highlight reel too.

The Browns have a history of shitting the bed and mismanagement and a poor culture but the new GM is an old school football guy according to those who know him and Hue Jackson is from that same mold. Mayfield is also an old school gunslinger, shit talkin dude. They probably need some of that in the locker room.

shocked Street went that high after the injury but that's awesome

after Richardson, we've matched the school record (from 2006 & 2012 drafts) of 6 players picked. have to assume JaySam will get taken soon and Adams should get drafted as well, I'd think.

also read that Justin Jones had planned his draft party for today, haha

4.6 yards per carry last year. pocket rocket is the type of asset you just have to find ways to use. rare speed.
