looking forward to your breakdown of the differences in how the draft board plays out and the resulting efficacy of the players chosen in a few years

^lol, it is a very long wager

^^^Cool out there tuff guy.

Your suggestions for how to tank a game are asinine. The players and coaches on the field are setting a resume for next season, and are professionals with a future to think about. This isn't Madden. They aren't going to go out and tank for a draft that may or may not affect them. Also the saints are wise to that game as well and realize that they can rest guys and lower the Panthers draft pick, it isn't a one way decision. Finally, the scrubs went out and scored, can't stop that.

Pretty sure affecting the Panthers draft choice played exactly zero part in the saints decision to rest players.

Yea, I guess the likelihood of that is about the same as the Panthers going out and taking a knee 45 times.

But, that said, i'm sure they are not upset that the Panthers hurt their draft pick.

with the frequency of trades in the draft nowadays, tanking really doesn't matter. draft position might as well be fluid now outside the top few picks. spend the picks to move up if you want, trade down and recoup some later, its really not that big of a deal.

If only they could find a way to get out of Olsen's contract. I don't think they can cut him until next year without a huge cap hit.

It’s a shame to see him go

But also good on Hurney for not giving him a 3 year deal to stay

^^Are we sure Olsen isn't retiring?

He hinted at it last year with a potential announcing job and honestly he'd be a homerun hire by a company to take over in the booth. The guy has to be tired of foot injuries.

God I hope he does. His last contract was a mistake.

Also they need to move on from Peppers, even if he wants to come back. He's done.

Pretty obvious that they won't re-sign draft disappointments like Funchess and Artis-Payne. The rest of that 2015 draft class should stick around, though.

Sorry old timers, time to go. Need to draft our asses off and find a good backup QB who could potentially become our next. Cam's shoulder may never be the same and given what Andrew Luck did, Cam may need to sit out the start of next season (at least)

Going to miss TD but he was noticeably slower this season and will keep getting slower, still can contribute to someone but not worth the money he is going to want.

Olsen said he was coming back after being placed on IR. In theory they could cut him not sure what his cap hit would be. But, he wanted the MNF gig and he isn't going to be a C-Team analyst on CBS or Fox.

Funchess and CAP are both done here. Funchess will get a big time deal with someone because of his size but his stone hands and poor routes will keep a lot of teams away. CAP was a disappointment after seeing how good he was at Auburn.

Definitely need a good draft and to add some decent pieces in Free agency.

no, they don’t need to waste a high pick on a potential replacement for Cam. I’d love to be in the Colts situation should he miss parts or all of next season. do what they did and build a fucking great O-line to protect Cam.

I think Allen showed enough to go into next year battling for #2. This is a weak QB draft class, so I think drafting one probably shouldn't happen.

Cam holds onto the ball too long and always has. It's not always the O-line that is responsible for how many times he's been sacked but I agree, they need to add some talent there.

I'd take that with a grain of salt, since Rivera is going to keep calling plays for the defense next year.

Also, doesn't make a lot of sense considering the personnel. IDK if people are saying that's why they're moving on from Davis, but the big reason he's not coming back is giving more PT to Thompson.

It doesn't seem like something they'd be able to just immediately implement given the personnel, but let's see what kind of defensive players they draft.

I mean unless they draft only defensive front seven guys with every pick, it's not gonna happen.

Chances Cam will sit out for part or all of next season?

Even with him at 100% I think it's going to be a hard year. Six games against this year's playoff teams and a seventh against one which came pretty close.

of the 12 teams that made the playoffs this year, only 5 were in last year

judging strength of schedule in January is dumb

At least Cam got this done prior to March unlike his last surgery.

While our schedule looks difficult you really can't judge this years playoff teams with how good they will be next year. The Rams and Saints went all in this year.

I read where the Saints will only have enough money to sign their draft picks this offseason, before they start cutting and restructuring. The Rams may be in same boat. The Jaguars were in the AFC Title game last year and everybody said they were trending up and they were awful this year. The NFL has too much parity and teams and personnel change too much to read to much into a schedule for next year in January.

https://www.wralsportsfan.com/panthers-re-sign-safety-eric-reid-to-3-year-deal/18185054/

Quote :
"Eric Reid has signed a three-year contract worth more than $22 million with the Carolina Panthers, a deal the safety believes is additional proof that NFL owners conspired to keep him out of the league last season.

Reid said Monday he believes he got "fair market value" after making just $1.69 million last season from the Panthers.

"If anything, it proves my point from last year," Reid said. "I didn't sign until the (fourth) week and did for almost the league minimum. And this year I signed a more substantial contract. And nothing has changed. I'm still the same player.""

yes he has a point but at the time he was an unknown being that he wasn't in training camp. He played on a show me deal and got rewarded. Nobody said life was fair. On the football side of things he was a good safety a little reckless at times but you need that from a safety. It will be interesting to see what he can do with an offseason workout program and training camp.
