I feel like he's one of several actors who have been successful at being in shows or movies as themselves, just using a different name. Seth Rogen is another one. So is he a good actor? No. Is he entertaining as himself? A lot of times he is.

I haven't seen his soap opera work though. I don't see how he could play himself there.

Feel like Vince Vaughn in similar category. Guys that just show up on set and be themselves and it works some but then gets old.

^I forgot he was in that. He did a real good job with that role. Quite a challenge since it compressed such a long/dense book into 8 episodes.
