When we bought our house last October, there was an antenna atop the house (it looks new and not like one of those aerials of yore) that they used instead of cable. We are looking to do the same, but I do not have an abundance of experience with (digital) antennas. What I don't know is if I can simply connect it into the back of our Samsung Smart TV or if I need a digital converter box or something. 11/18/2018 6:24:05 PM |

Coax to tv, that's it. Unless you want a dvr box. 11/18/2018 8:03:53 PM |

you'd only need a converter if your tv is really really old, at least 15 or 20 years old

You may need an amplifier, if there isn't one already on the line. Try without first; if the signal is weak / bad, start tracing the line to see if there is an amplifier installed somewhere (sometimes people will put them in the attic), though generally, I think amplifiers are installed at the TV.
