Not unless they drastically improve the inside the stadium. Right now concessions nor restrooms can handle it

^yea we do need some major upgrades in that department. It’s expensive, but I would hope the beer sells becoming legal would speed up those needed renovations. All that goes hand in hand. Beer sells should be the catalyst for upgrading concessions and bathrooms and ending halftime passouts. Although I doubt all of that will happen in one offseason. Those upgrades might take a little while.

Yes I agree. I would imagine for next season we will get some sort of pavilion time drinking spot. I think Louisville has one, something like that.

for the record i have loved many a halftime passout, but it does seem in our best interest as a football program to end them

however if the problem is people leaving at half to drink, watch games with the dish they brought, and not come back i don't see how ending passouts is a solution.

It’s about making it more fun to stay in the stadium. Do that with beer, better access to concessions, and better/more bathrooms.

No I am all in favor of eliminating passouts, just saying these good ol’ boys will still skip out that’s all. I realize that’s unrelated— I would gladly pay 10$ for a beer in CF.

Well that's pretty late in the season and unexpected.

I hope that means Khalid Martin/some other underclassmen are looking good enough to get a real chance to shake up the roster

3rd on the depth chart after two days...he wants immediate playing time cant blame him. WVU bound maybe.

Didn't we get a decent transfer ourselves to replace him?

This means more playing time for Ingle

Eh, not really, no one who's specifically a safety. We've got Levi Jones (linebacker) coming in and Jeffrey Gunter (a 2 star SDE out of Coastal Carolina) but they've both got to sit out a year. I remember liking Kidd-Glass's work, so yeah not exactly excited about the move, but supposedly we're deep at safety anyways

Kidd-Glass was running 3rd string and got beat out by Ingle and Stallings. That's not even factoring in the true FR that are still picking things up that might have beat him out.

Don't think this is going to be a big loss or any reason we need to adjust recruiting, we've landed a ton of versatile DBs lately and I loved what I saw out of Graves at safety in the Spring Game, thinking he has a lot of potential there(though that may be at Strong Safety). Not sure how I feel about Ingle playing FS but dude played hard and could hit, I just wonder about his speed/coverage. Though let's be honest, that dude got shit on quite a bit last year when it was clear the safeties made bad reads and he got roasted because he was supposed to have safety help over the top. Hopefully his experience getting burnt to a crisp because of bad safety play will help him avoid those same mistakes.

Also weird that Kidd-Glass isn't a graduate so he can't grad-transfer and will have to transfer and sit out a year.

^^what about kidd-glass' work do you remember liking? Because hes been one of the worst safeties to get PT that weve had over the last decade. If there was anything to like, he wouldnt have been running with the 3s in the first practice of his senior year

My only lasting memory of Kidd-Glass was him getting beat by a WR and one of our LBs out-running him in pursuit. I'm sure he's gotten better since then but it was definitely a bad look.

To be honest, looking back at it, not much. I remembered hearing his name, but that's about it. Looking back all he did was break up a pass against JMU, force a fumble against Marshall, and got a 10-yard sack against ECU. Then I started thinking "maybe it was the spring game" but he only got 2 solo tackles, so to be honest, you're right, not much

So if you don't think Ingle is very good, the fact that Ingle was 1st on the depth chart and Tim Kidd-Glass was 3rd on the depth chart at the same position, even with multiple years of experience over Ingle, should tell you how bad the staff thinks Kidd-Glass is/was.

Also I think people are shitting on Ingle for, like, 3 plays last year and at least 2 of those were the safety's fault and not his. But dude is a thumper, can play the run and finish tackles, he shouldn't need as much quickness/speed playing safety as trying to play the nickel.

I think it's great that we have a true SO that is generating this much buzz because I think it paves the way for 2 years of him and Graves starting at safety. Also love that Doeren compared Ingle to Josh Jones yesterday, and he was pretty good at State.

I don't think speed or quickness were his problems, he just wasn't good playing coverage with his back to the ball.

Ingle made some pretty amazing plays last year, but he routinely got beat. But he was just a freshman, so you couldn't really expect much. this year needs to be different. He needs to stop making the mistakes he made all through last year.

Well he won't make those mistakes because he'll rarely be asked to cover receivers at the line this year.

Good article on the TOB era and the enigma that it was. The team was truly schizophrenic. They would be world beaters one week, only to get destroyed by a crappy team the next week. For the record I did like TOB and thought he ran a clean program that we could be proud of. I also liked him starting a tradition of the players going over to the student section after the game to sing the alma mater.

^^

these stats at the end of that piece are really eye popping

Quote :
"TOB’s winning percentage against ranked FBS teams: 64.3%
TOB’s winning percentage against unranked FBS teams: 42.6%
TOB was 7-2 in home games against Wake Forest, Boston College, and Maryland
He was 1-8 in road games against those teams.
TOB had fewer road wins against the ACC Atlantic than he had road wins against UNC, despite having five times as many opportunities.
TOB was 2-0 when facing a ranked FSU team. He was 0-4 when facing an unranked FSU team.
TOB only faced two teams that were ranked in the top 10 during his time in Raleigh. He defeated both of them.
In 2012, TOB’s Wolfpack defeated number three and eventual ACC Champion Florida State and lost to 2-6 Virginia by 27 IN THE SAME SEASON."

That doesn't shock me at all. That tells me that TOB's stoic approach to things is likely to blame. He didn't get kids pumped up to play teams and didn't get them worked up leading up to games to get the motivation amped up to play their hardest. Instead he pushed for "consistency" and everyone being even keel. That tells me that our teams got hyped up against ranked teams and UNC(rival) out of natural motivation.

Prediction time:

OOC 3-1 (ECU, WCU, Ball State, WVU)
ACC Gimmies 2-1 (Louisville, GT, UNC)
ACC 50/50's 2-2 (FSU, Cuse, BC, WF)
ACC Contenders 0-1 (Clemson)

Overall 7-5, 4-4 in the ACC.

I might too optimistic but I’ll say 4-0 OOC. WV is on the road, but the lost a ton from last year. That’s a winnable game for sure.

In the ACC I’ll say....

@FSU - L, I don’t think they’ll be all that great this year, but on the road I’ll give them the edge.
Cuse - W, they lost a lot. I’m not totally buying their hype for this year.
@BC - W, they aren’t that good but AJ Dillon is good and their QB is good. This is winnable for sure though.
@Wake - L, They’re gonna be soli this year, we struggle at Wake historically. Whatever.
Clemson - L, no analysis needed here
UL - W, it’s at home. They’re in a major rebuild
@GT - W, I could see GT starting to find a rhythm late in the season with their new coach and new system. And this is a road game for us. But we should take care of business.
UNC - W, fuck unc

This is a super easy schedule this year given ECU, WV, UL, GT, UNC all have new coaches and are all rebuilding. FSU should be improved, but they’re still rebuilding. @BC won’t be a pushover. And Wake should be a good team this year. Cuse is in a transition year, but they’ll still be solid...at home that’s winnable though.

Obviously we are in a transition year ourselves with a new QB, losing a lot of offensive production, losing Pratt on D, losing some guys on the OL, replacing an OC, etc. but if things come together on our end, this is a very favorable schedule to win 8 games. All that said, 6-6 is totally on the table if we our offense is inconsistent and D doesn’t improve.

Unc could end up tougher than we think. They've had major injuries the last few years, gotta think it will be diff if they're healthy and not in the process of quitting on a coach. Also didn't they get some potential high impact transfers?

Anyway long story short, fuck unc

Yeah unc could be solid next year. I don’t see them winning 7 games or anything. And they could start 0-5 with a schedule of SCar, Miami, @Wake, App, Clemson. But I also don’t see them being a total disaster either. They could be decent. Probably better than WV, UL, and GT

Define "solid" for UNC?

Biggest questions about UNC is on D and whether or not this new personnel can execute the new systems. They brought in a staff built to recruit and not coach, and stuck it with 2 coordinators that are actually solid coaches(DC more than OC) but I'm not convinced this whole thing is going to gel. Their OC is high-octane score early and fast but he struggled last year with multiple NFL draft picks on offense(particularly at WR) and their DC had great rankings last year but played with the #1 TOP offense and had limited possessions. Really curious to see what happens when you take his D and pair it with a really bad TOP offense and take away the built in protection that provides.

I think they'll be like us and 1 of their 3 QBs will prove to be solid to good and they'll be fine. Their problem personnel-wise will be in the trenches. They're extremely thin at OL and DL and we'll have a clear advantage in depth if nothing else. They landed some transfers but no one I would call "impact".

If we lose to UNC at home in the final game of the season it's either because we're beat up with injuries or UNC sucks and Mack treats it like their superbowl.

Prediction:

Prediction time:

OOC 4-0 (ECU, WCU, Ball State, WVU)
Analysis: We have more talent than 3 of these teams(at least) and I think WVU has lost a LOT of talent and they just lost another 2 projected starters recently, paired with a new HC/system.
ACC Coastal 2-0 (GT, UNC)
Analysis: New staffs are going to need time to fill the cupboards. GT in particular needs an entire new roster worth of OL talent, doesn't help they had their 1 great OL transfer out.
ACC Atlantic: 3-2 (FSU, Cuse, BC, WF, UL)
Analysis: We'll lose @FSU and to Cuse. I think Babers is legit and I think Cuse will still be good as long as their OL isn't complete trash after losing 3 key guys. Yes, I think we'll beat Wake, they've gotten extremely lucky the last 2 years to beat us and I think that runs out this year.
ACC Contenders 0-1 (Clemson)
Analysis: Ha. They're really good.

Overall 9-3, 5-3 in the ACC. Once again we'll head into our bowl game at 9-3 and come just short of finishing with 10 wins.

We honestly couldn't have asked for a much easier schedule this year. We're facing 5 teams with new staffs. I think based on CBS Sports preseason rankings we should be favored in all but 2 or 3 games(Clemson, Cuse, and FSU), so not unrealistic that we could hit 9 or 10 wins. Really comes down to health, our OL, and what we end up with at QB. Think our D is actually the strength of the team this year, which seems to odd to type.

I don’t anticipate this year being a repeat of 2-10 or 3-9 they’ve done the last couple years. I think they could win 5 games. I can’t envision them winning more than 6, but I just mean I don’t expect this to be another 2 win season or anything that bad.
