I tried watching some of the CMAs. What I saw was terrible (other than Chris Stapleton, and George Strait to a lesser extent).

HOw is Thomas Rhett's song "Look What God Gave Her" remotely considered country music? I'm not trying to be a hater, I really just don't understand how it could be considered country music, at all.

^^^It's the same problem country music has had for years.

If you have a pop song with a country artist in it, it'll get played on country radio.

It's why that stupid "Meant To Be" song crushed the radio charts, it was blasted on pop and country stations because it had a pop artist and a "country" duo. Thomas Rhett was a country artist for a bit and now he's just trying to be Bruno Mars but he's still on a country label and being pumped on country stations(his dad being Rhett Akins helps too).

Taylor Swift had the same deal until she literally came out and said she was no longer a country artist to get taken more serious in pop/mainstream music. I don't see Thomas Rhett doing that, but I think it would make a lot more sense than calling what he's putting out "country". Think FGL is in the same boat, but the problem is those dudes aren't making good music right now and they can't really decide what they want to be.

Here's the thing, Taylor Swift is a talented songwriter. These fucks you're comparing her to aren't. They don't really write their own stuff and the songs they record are fucking awful formulaic garbage. Just a beat and buzzwords.

And I'm fine with whoever winning these country music awards, because this is what mainstream (FM radio) country is now. There's plenty of country out there that fits anyone's taste, be it "classic", outlaw, western, whatever.

Saying you're a country musician allows you to play your music on double the stations(because pop will play whatever).

Country records also sell incredibly well compared to a lot of other genres. There is a reason you have people trying to flip and make country albums out of nowhere or partner with country artists.

Hell it's why you have this stupid shit they've created called King Calloway. It's essentially a country version of One Direction they just created with 5 or 6 dudes out of England. It's silly.

So I thought this was a pretty decent parody/pastiche of country music with some good backup vocals from Billy Ray Cyrus, which made it listenable despite the horrible lead, uh, "singer."
