Finally saw it. At first I was amazed I made it this long without seeing any spoilers, and then I realized people just don't care about it enough to talk about it. Endgame was ruined for me just from google news recommending headlines for me. This has just been meh publicly.

I didn't like it, I didn't hate it. Same way I felt about TLJ. Bad storytelling all around, no chance to focus on any one character's progress and decision making. Too many locations, too many story points, too many side quests.

Glad Is aw it. Glad it's over. My rankings:

Empire, Hope, Awakens, RotJ, R1, 8/9 tie, Solo, III, I, II

^If I had to watch just one on its own, I'd choose FA before those two. RotJ I'd want to watch just the very beginning and very end. Even though FA's highs aren't as high, it's more consistently not low.

I don't remember as much RotJ hate until Lucas put out the terrible 'special edition' which had more drastic changes than the special editions of ANH and ESB. It's one thing if you want to add some CGI dewback or new explosion graphics, but they completely changed the music and scene in Jabba's palace as well as in the Ewok village, among other things

I saw the original version as a kid before the special editions came out. I liked it then but realized sometime around high school that it didn't stack up against IV and V. If it was just rescuing Han and then only Luke's story arc the rest of the way through it would be perfect. I like the space fight too, just not the stuff on the Endor moon.

Hey, people liked that death star, let's have another one! And cute little teddy bears will run around and kill trained soldiers with sticks! This is going to be great movie!

People shit on the latest trilogy just rehashing plotlines when the original trilogy did the same thing. At least the new ones changed it from a death star to a giant laser in a planet.

They were guerrillas who used the environment to their advantage. It was an ode to Vietnam. Storm troopers never had aim anyway and a conventional military couldn't do shit against a walker but they rigged up some traps.

It's on Disney+ today.

This movie is a billion times better than TLJ. Also better than ROTJ, because those are the 2 worst star wars and it's not even close.

Nah, I just realize that rotj is the worst star wars movie.

It wouldn't be a bad movie if it wasn't a star wars movie. But it is and that makes it terrible.

justin would rather watch the senate talk about trade negotiations, or watch rose tico ride some animals through a casino, than see luke kill a rancor or lando blow up a deathstar

The thing that bugs me is that there was absolutely no consistency througout this newer trilogy. At least Lucas had a story that he developed for the prequels and it did pay off in revenge of the sith.

While RotS is the best of the prequels, it hasn't held up well for me. Hayden's acting is just atrocious, and all the disco dancing with lightsabers is a bit much. Granted, I'm no fencing/sword fighting expert, but most of the moves they used on each other just seemed like flair, rather than one person trying to take out the other.

I can say the same about the light saber scene in the last jedi. Specifically, why would ben and rey waste time in a brawl when they both could just use the force?

If you think any Star Wars movie is worse than the Phantom Menace or Attack of the Clones you are clearly a troll.

last jedi was a much better film all around. Rise of skywalker made zero sense. the only thing that actually connected to the first movie was some intimacy between Kylo and Rey.

While I'm watching The Last Jedi, I just can't shake the idea that Johnson was mocking Star Wars the whole time.

it just felt out of place, but again, the dynamic between the main characters was done well IMO.

The intentions and motivations behind Rian Johnson's work on "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" have been a topic of debate among fans and critics. While some viewers interpret certain aspects of the film as subversive or critical of established Star Wars themes, it is essential to consider that interpretations can vary.

Rian Johnson himself has stated that he approached the film with a sincere love and respect for the Star Wars franchise. He aimed to bring new ideas and challenges to the narrative while respecting its core elements. His intention was to push the story and characters in unexpected directions, offering fresh perspectives and thematic exploration.

However, it's important to recognize that viewers may have different interpretations and reactions to the film. Some fans felt that Johnson's approach deviated too much from established Star Wars conventions, while others appreciated the film's attempts to take risks and explore new territory within the saga.

In summary, while some viewers perceive elements of critique or mockery in "The Last Jedi," it's more accurate to say that Rian Johnson aimed to contribute to the Star Wars universe with his own creative vision and narrative choices.

I read online somewhere that it seems like the movies were made after the director thought of a few cool scenes and visuals and then built the movie around the plot (hyperdriving into the fleet, rey summoning all the jedi in her, etc)

makes sense to me

^^ there is a difference between creative interpretation and completely disregarding any existing material. hell, even if we forget all the discontinuity, they are not very good movies on their own in terms of the character building or themes
