I watched the new Aladdin yesterday with my family and fell in love with it. Best Disney remake live-action movie by far. High entertaining. Will Smith reaches a new height of his career.
Good for this long weekend and the summer.
Looking forward to Lion King and Mulan as well

I liked everything except jafar, he was horribly miscast and had none of the qualities of the original villain. Iago was also disappointing. I really did like Will Smith though

Jafar is supposed to be one of the evilest characters in cartoon history. He's like the cartoon version of joker.

I thought Jafar was supposed to be modeled after Rasputin.

They could fix it in its following---The Return of Jafar. Although I never watched the cartoon version since I was already getting older.

Wasn't Jafar supposed to be like 70 yrs old (which ups the creepiness factor of him trying to marry Jasmine)? This dude looked to be about in his 30s.

Agreed on Iago. Oddly enough, Alan Tudyk was doing his voice, which was a complete waste of talent in this situation.

I'm glad that there was only like one white guy in the whole thing and that this just didn't end up like another whitewashed movie.

LOL The main cast almost all are from western countries. Aladdin is from Canada, Jasmine is from UK, and Jafar is from Netherland. But you won't recognize them as white. What's your standard of whiteness? Jafar is pretty white imo.

So you mean they have to be pure European descendants.

No, he just wanted to make a comment that made him look like some SJW and it backfired on him.

You are aware that people can be from one country and be a different ethnicity than it's majority, right? Who the fuck is being a SJW? Get the fuck out of here with your lame attempts at trolling.

The rehearsal of A Whole New World is stunning, especially when Naomi yells.

I guess if Jafar is portraited to be as evil as Joker, it's not good for children's mindset.

I did not like it. I would have rather seen an entirely new take on the story than a beat-by-beat remake, and the few tweaks they made were not good ones.

I expect there's new video game releasing. Should be awesome.
Beat-by-beat does look lame. Maybe they think the original cartoon is so classic that they don't want to make any changes.

I was a fan of The Jungle Book's remake and am hoping that The Lion King's remake will live up to its hype.

The Lion King remake is also beat-by-beat.

I think that's Disney's M.O. Watched the Beauty and the Beast remake with Hermione as Belle, and it was the original with one or two new bits, but it was beat for beat.

How are they doing live action Lion King?

How many Disney cartoons in general were "original" vs adapted from source material?

Depends on how generous you want to be with those terms.

Aladdin was boring. Three quarters of the way in, I was panicking thinking this movies not going to end for a long time

It's boring b/c you knew the entire plot 27 yrs ago already. It's just a remake.

Sonam Kapoor would have made a better match to the cartoon as Jasmine. I actually forgot the ending since it has been so long. The movie was not as good as Beauty and the Beast remake

Watched the trailer of Mulan during the halftime break of FIFA world cup. Pretty decent, except Mulan plays Taichi in the Tang Dynasty. Taichi is invented by Zhang Sanfeng about 1000 yrs later.

Gonna reserve seats for Lion King soon.

That’s a smart observation. I am bummed though that some kids will be less likely to watch the originals now that the CGI versions are out for so many movies.

My daughter loves the cartoon version more than the CGI. The cartoons are way more classic.

^^ I guess Jet Li taught Crystal Liu some Taichi, as Jet Li is a Taichi master. He successfully portrayed Zhang Sanfeng in the film The Master of Taichi. Jet also played Taichi against billionaire Jack Ma in another film.
Jet acts the emperor in Mulan.

Just watched Lion King, it was pretty much exactly the same. I thought Donald Glover did a very poor job

I decided Lion King was going to be shit just a few minutes in.

When Rafiki climbs Pride Rock and embraces Mufasa in the original, you can see and feel the old friendship through all the little nuances of expression. The remake had... absolutely nothing. There was no reverence for Rafiki, etc etc.

I think it's pretty good, about the same level as Aladdin.

Mulan is a totally different one than the original.

"Merry Christmas, ya filthy animal -- a Disney remake of "Home Alone" is on its way.

In a conference call with investors, Disney CEO Bob Iger said the company would be "reimagining" the 1990s Christmas classic film for its long-awaited streaming service, Disney+, along with "Night at the Museum," "Cheaper by the Dozen" and "Diary of a Wimpy Kid.""
