I wear mine all the time so I don't have to interact with people because they're not as important as my music or audio book

Earbuds that have a silicone knub are way better than Apple style. They won't fall out and block out other sound sources around you

What kills me are people who can't be taken away from their music long enough to grocery shop.

I wear mine while shopping because I prefer listening to music over listening to random chatter from people I don’t know

they're just security blankets and you're scared of human interaction.

plus, the music and podcasts you listen to are stupid

It isn't necessarily about the grocery store. It's the idea that one can't separate themselves from that kind of tech long enough for a trip to the grocery store. Or to walk between classes.

I mean I watch young teens at dinner tables with their family with their fuckin headphones on, and all I want to go to is talk to the parents and ask them why they're allowing that to happen. It's just sad.

^^ why should grocery stores be tech-free zones?

does some nerd walking around with headphones on degrade your shopping experience?

I agree with your take on the kids looking at phones/ipads at dinner/restaurants. Its pretty pathetic. I was at a restaurant one night and looked at s table with mom, dad and two boys around 7-9. Two boys had ipads propped on table and mom and dad were both on their phones. Zero conversation was had while they sat and waited for their food. I see atleast one case similar almost every time i go out to eat. Its terrible

yeah i mean ive been riding the train/bus/plane and shopping/working and going to the gym or working out etc. with headphones in since I had a cassette player. so nothing different.

I view that as totally different than someone staring at a screen during a family meal or hanging out with friends.

I had a discman, and a walkman. But I listened to them mostly while cutting grass or in my room.

and that's totally fine, but I also don't see any issue with having them in a lot. It's only if I am solo. I'm not sitting around with headphones on while hanging out with my friends or wife. (I'm sitting here at my desk with headphones on currently).

KIDS THESE DAYS

wear headphones while listening to music just like previous generations did with older technology

and only respectful, kind children use them while doing chores around the house. only heathens use them in public.

I remember I got called out by a teacher on one of my first days in college because i had walkman headphones on during class. I had one of the speakers off my ear so I could still hear the teacher.

The worst is people who go into a restaurant to get something to go, Chipotle, for example, and are on a bluetooth phone call the entire time that they're in line, including while they're ordering.

Headphones only bother me when the wearer is unaware of what's happening around them, such as when I'm trying to get past them on a narrow path or trail.
