This movie was straight TRASH. It was watchable, unlike fox-made marvel movies, but it was truly bad. I can forgive the MANY inconstancies with the plot logic (there were so fucking many), but even not looking at those, it just wasn’t good.
The “you'll believe a man can fly” original superman homage shot looked like garbage (and the entire Wonder Woman “flying” was so illogical and stupid even within the context of the Super hero universe).
Apparently the lasso of truth is of infinite length? Apparently it can be anywhere from 10-10,000 feet long?Maybe this is comic cannon, I really don’t know, but it didn’t work for me here.
Pedro Pascals son in the movie very much looked Asian. The actor (Pascale) is from Chile, the one brief glimpse of his exwife I remember bright blonde hair and not Asian. I am 1000% percent cool with them having an adopted son, and trying to normalize adoption, but it was honestly a little confusing without any explanation.
I also fucking hate how they fell into the second movie-superhero loses their power trope. Spiderman 2 did this shit. We wait so many years to see our beloved superhero on screen. 3/4s of the first movie is just them learning to become the superhero we all know and want to see. The last 1/4 we may get some good action. The second movie should be pure fanboy bliss...but no, we can’t ever actually see a superhero in their prime doing bad ass shit, they have to lose their powers to learn a lesson 12/25/2020 5:41:11 PM |

All i have to add is that bill and ted face the music got 82% on rotten tomatoes, and that was absolute garbage
So when ^ and on other side of spectrum rotten tomatoes gives certified fresh, take when grain of salt
I am willing to bet this is eons ahead of 2020 bill and ted, and probably crappier or equal to 6/10.
Which in 2020 makes it an 8/10. Gg WW1984. 12/26/2020 1:45:13 AM |

Ah ok, they probably should have worked in some kind of call back or reminder of that earlier in the movie (if they did I don’t remember, but I was quite drunk). To have a pivotal moment of the main physical battle of the movie hinge on a small factoid you have to remember from the first movie is not great writing. My wife and I were both confused.

I mean...yeah, kinda is. I didn’t remember that Zeus was her father at all.
Cheetah got powers by wishing to be like Diana. If Diana was immune to electricity Shouldn’t cheetah be too? Or did Diana renouncing her wish take her power away from Cheetah, and cheetahs second wish to be an apex predator start a completely new power set? The rules and events surrounding Cheetah weren’t very clear to me, a long day of drinking certainly didn’t help.

I really enjoyed the first movie, in spite of the CGI fest that was the climax.
This movie though - ouch.
First of all, what in the world drove their decision to bring Steve back via a body heist? They all live in a world where Zeus existed - not one viewer would question the metaphysics of bringing Steve back in his own body. So why have him inhabit someone else's body? What happened to the original? Is he in limbo somewhere? This guy - didn't he have friends that tried to come around? Family? And Steve seemed far too comfortable in 1984. I realize there's limited time for the "fish out of water" trope, but they could have explored this in a better form other than a outfit change montage.
I get that Steve was a crack pilot back in his day, which was 1917/18. Even for a jet made in the 60's/70's, a lot has changed with avionics. I'm no pilot, but one would really have to suspend belief to buy a WWI pilot being able to fly a somewhat modern vet. If there's a pilot out there that can correct me on this, please do.
Diana's ever changing skillset, which seemed to pivot to whatever the scene needed at the time:
- Making things invisible? It took her over 60 years to come up with this idea? - Flying? If she could fly, why didn't she just fly around the German trenches in WWI? And ok, maybe it took her a while to develop this ability. I can buy that, but then what about BvS and Justice League? I don't recall her ever flying there. Maybe some really long jumps, but I don't think I ever saw her just fly like Superman. - Has her lasso always had infinite length? If so, why didn't she just lasso the machine guns away from the German machine gun nests?
The development of Barbara into Cheetah was just too rushed. There's no good explanation as to why Cheetah looks like a casting reject from the Cats movie. Also, if her wish was to be just like Diana, wouldn't she have inherited the ability to resist electricity?
And finally, I didn't see any real significance for the year in which this movie takes place. Were they just calling back for nostalgia? Aside from maybe some added conflict from the Cold War, I see no specific plot point that ties this movie to 1984. You could move it back to 1964 or ahead to 2004 and have pretty much the same movie.
I really really wanted to like this movie.

I'm used to coming up with rationalizations for stuff like this in comics, so I'll give you two reasons. Pick whichever one you like better.
First, Barbara had become Cheetah when that happened after her second wish. There's no reason to think her first wish was still in effect. Her wish to become an apex predator simply superseded her wish to be like Diana.
Alternatively, Diana's resistance to electricity is presumably due to her divine heritage like I mentioned before. While the Dreamstone was created by a god, that doesn't mean it's capable of creating anything truly godly. Wishing to be like Diana might make you brave and strong by human standards, but the Dreamstone probably can't literally make you the daughter of Zeus.12/30/2020 10:56:27 AM |

not a great movie, notice from the very being when they did the a bunch of cut of Kristen Wiig's Barbara Minerva character entering the building an dropping papers, each cut the papers were hanging out of her brief case different or not hanging out at all.
Still looking forward to the Snyder Cut will wonder women fly or forget how? 12/30/2020 11:14:15 AM |

Man. This movie was bad. The first one was so good too. So many plot holes and things that just don’t make sense. RJRumfel asked why this was specifically set in 1984 and I think they just wanted to pick a time before any of the Justice League heroes were a thing otherwise they would have intervened too and they wanted to cash in on 80s nostalgia.

I’m a pilot, admittedly of just Cessnas but they are way more advanced than the aircraft a WWI pilot would be familiar with. I wouldn’t even know how to start up the engines on what looked like a 1960s era combat aircraft, let alone any of the avionics and controls outside of roll, pitch, and yaw. That whole thing with the plane was ridiculous anyway. Why would a vintage aircraft be fueled up and flightworthy at the Smithsoneum? Not even tied down, but in perfect flying shape? Cockpit not even locked or with any way to stop a random person from messing with it? Oh yeah and then they flew from DC to Cairo WITHOUT STOPPING despite the fact that they didn’t have even a paper map to navigate across the Atlantic and there is no way an aircraft of that size could carry enough fuel for such a trip. Including a detour through some fireworks.
Also, did Wonder Woman just conveniently forget how to fly and make things invisible in Justice League and Batman vs Superman? Also, remember the part at the end of BvS when she told Bruce Wayne that she has been out of the hero game for like a hundred years? I guess she forgot that she went around shopping malls in the 80s in full costume (with no way of disguising her identity) swinging around like Spider-Man in the middle of a mall.1/1/2021 4:48:59 AM |

One other thing. And I've not followed the comics so maybe they've explained it there - She called herself Diana Prince in the 80's - I don't remember if she gave herself a last name in 1918, but if she did, she was Diana Prince in 1918, and still Diana Prince in 2017. Soooooo, nobody picked up on this? No US Census? Social Security? 1/1/2021 6:12:41 PM |

That type of thing doesn’t bother me as much as the many baffling inconsistencies actually shown on screen in the movie. I only saw the first one once, but she was never actually in America in that one, was she? Did she come at here at the end? In any case, no ones holding a gun to your head to make sure you fill out the census, and this is all pre computer tracking 1/1/2021 7:03:24 PM |

This movie was just so much worse than the first, full of disjointed nonsense, but none worse than when she learned to fly.
First of all, she learned to fly because Steve gave her a 30 second overview of aerodynamics even though she has been trying to master it for decades?
Second, it made the coolest scene in the trailer (lassoing lightning to swing across the sky) completely pointless because she could have just been flying instead of doing that. It's cool to watch spider-man swing across new york but if you are watching Superman fly across new york and suddenly he starts swinging like spider-man for a few seconds you're gonna be perplexed.
Finally, considering this happened in the climax of the movie, when Lord was about to start his world ending plans, I was thinking maybe this isn't the right time for an "unlock your powers montage." but I thought well at least she might be trying to follow Lord while she is flying. But no, it turns out she was just flying around in a circle around DC because she had to go back to her apartment to get the golden armor anyway. 1/2/2021 8:14:42 PM |

This was awful. I can't remember the last time I watched something so nonsensical. I noticed the same problems everyone else did: the body-jacking, the way wishes worked was wildly inconsistent, Cheetah isn't very interesting, way too easy for characters to find each other, etc. But worst of all this movie just drags. The fireworks scene, the "first out of water" scenes, the robbery at the mall, and the climax at the satellite all could've been trimmed down. The action was generally underwhelming too.
One saving grace of this movie is that the performances were generally strong. Max Lord was likably goofy and Diana and Steve had good chemistry. I found myself slightly moved by their goodbye scene, but who could look into those eyes and not be a mess. Kristen Wiig does well with what she's given, but Barbara is too broad and her arc just isn't interesting.
Also in the scene where Diana flies they play "Sunshine (Adagio in D minor)" which has been in dozens of trailers. I don't get why they didn't have Hans Zimmer compose something original for that, it was very distracting. 1/4/2021 12:42:11 PM |
