^^^

I'll try again:

If you're 76 years old today, then all of the presidents during your lifetime where older than you during their presidency, with the exception of Obama.

If you're 60 years old today, then all of the presidents during your lifetime where older than you during their presidency.

Not sure why you're introducing a 290-year-old George Washington. A president's age is clearly more important while they're actually president. However, if Obama is older today than you are today, he was also older when you were both 6 years younger and he was still president.

I brought up 290 year old George Washington because when you said

Quote :
"It always blows my mind that you can be 76 years old and every president other than Obama has been older. If you're 60, every president has been older."

I took that as literally referring to every president, which makes it a completely meaningless statement for the majority of presidents, who have both 1) Been dead for more than 60 years (hence the statement is meaningless for them) and 2) Were in fact younger than 60 when they were inaugurated, which I thought was worth pointing out.

But your statement still wouldn't be true during the entirety of the Clinton, GW Bush, or Obama's presidencies. That amounts to 24 of the last 30 years. Sure, we've had septuagenarians for the other, most recent, 6 of those 30, but I really doubt that's terribly unusual historically, particularly considering (and adjusting for the fact) that I'm sure at least some of it is attributable to longer life spans. You elect one old president and if he serves 8 years, all of the previous presidents are 8 years older, too.

I would also like to see more younger presidents, too, but I don't think an eight year string of old presidents is that atypical.

Let me try saying it this way:

What you're saying is true simply for the fact that we've had two old presidents in a row. That's it, everyone else is automatically old (see below). And I don't think that's terribly unusual. Granted, I suppose it's unique in American history to have sequential septuagenarian presidents, but given longer life spans, I don't think it's statistically unlikely at all.

Obama, as you mentioned, is on the younger end, and he was inaugurated only 13.5 years ago.

GWB was inaugurated over 20 years ago, so he's pretty much meaningless with respect to your statement. Of course he's old, that was a while ago. But he was relatively young in office.

Even more so with Clinton, who was inaugurated over 30 years ago. Of course he's old. But when he was in office, he was younger than all the others listed here.

Of course Bill Clinton was younger 30 years ago when he was president.

Someone who is 76 years old today was also 30 years younger when Bill Clinton was president.

This is way too much effort for what should've been a throwaway comment.

one of my favorite things on the internet is when somebody doubles and triples down on misreading something, instead of just saying, “ah, I just mis-read that. my bad”

I agree, I just think it it's not a particularly unusual or remarkable situation (nor "mind blowing"): When you're young, of course presidents are older than you; right now we've had two consecutive presidents in their 70s, of course they're older than most. That's all this situation is, and I don't think it's unusual at all.

I actually stated I thought misread that in the initial post I made, on edit; it's not about that. The rest of my responses were about how I don't think it's particularly noteworthy (as in, it's pretty far from being "mind blowing" once you're aware it's not that terribly unexpectable). I'll grant that it's an interesting bit of trivia, but I don't think it's more than that, and I'm sorry I said anything if that's all that was ever intended.

None, and there won’t be any. It’s not just a dearth of good candidates—it’s that you have to be batshit to win.

Biden is incapacitated in some way. Kamala assumes the Presidency and the right refuses to acknowledge transfer of power.

Amidst the chaos, Ron DeSantis becomes president.
