Not quite. Keatts started off 39-34, which is a 0.534 win percentage.

Best ever was Everett Case in his first 4 years in the Southern Conference (1946-47 through 1949-50 seasons), where he had a 49-5 record (0.907). He's also second if you count his first 4 seasons in the ACC (1953-54 through 1956-57) as well at 35-15 (0.700). R. R. Sermon is next at 23-17 (0.575), though he is better than the rest of eligible SoCon coaches.

If you look at just the ACC records it would be true if not for Gottfried, who started off with a 39-31 record (0.557) during the 2011-12 through 2014-15 seasons. Besides Keatts and Gottfried, the best starting record in the ACC was Norm Sloan, who went 28-28.

Agree with this and my fear (based on one game) is that he wants to be that guy this season, but doesn't have the skillset. There were a few times in the game where he was a bit out of control trying to score in the ISO. I see him more as a shooter/cheap buckets guy and not a creator.

^^so I guess the stat is he has the 2nd best ACC win % of any coach through his first 4 years. Or that he’s tied for most wins in first 4 years in ACC. Which is somewhat deceiving since it doesn’t include SoCon. And you play more conference games now than ever before. And because Gott is first it really kinda takes away any shine that the distinction had. Oh well.

Yeah, definitely a few qualifiers but the point remains that he's got a pretty good starting record.

I really haven't been keeping a pulse on our basketball program this off-season but it seems like expectations are pretty low. Which is weird cause I don't remember us having some big miss like Josh Hall or Jalen Lecque. Are his recruits just more consistent but lower-tier? Or is this about what we expected?

We haven't been very good the last few years (missed the NCAAs) and we lost some key contributors and although our recruits look to be pretty good, they are still unproven and it's unlikely they will immediately match what Devon Daniels and DJ brought us.

I imagine part of is a lot of our guys haven't played together. It's a pretty young team, , and most of the older guys are transfers, except for jericole and manny. (and no elite scorers)

Some of this was already answered but as far as recruiting…it’s not really that bad. It’s not like top 10 or anything. But it seems to be top 25 ish range. But we haven’t been bringing in 5 star level guys either.

But also none of our established players are anything super exciting (other than defensive side of Bates). Obviously Cam or Seabron could make a leap, but based on last year..

It's been said 10 times already bur who goes and gets a bucket this year? Likely one of the frosh, maybe/prob Terq (patent pending). DJ and DD were our bucket getters and they are gone.

Also recruiting look really needs to include transfers and those are really pretty underwhelming.

So keys to the season
1. Manny healthy enough to average very high minutes
2. Someone steps up as a breakdown scorer consistent threat

Hellems took big steps forward last year and imo did fairly well with the go to role when he was forced to due to injuries. He’s not Al Freeman or Trevor Lacey in terms of guys that can go get a bucket. In part, his shot and style of playing can seem ugly and not smooth. So I feel like that makes him sense worse than he is. I’m somewhere in between on him. He’s good. But he’s got plenty of room to improve

Hellems is incredibly solid in all facets of the game. He's not outstanding at any one thing, but he's also not absolute dogshit at any thing either. He can doa little bit of everything on both ends of the court and is arguably our most important player. Some people will say that is Bates but i will say NO SIR YOU ARE WRONG SIR.

Manny already made a huge improvement last year. A small improvement this year would make that essentially a non issue. He averaged 27 mpg and 2.6 fouls pg. Fouled out once. Conversely, Hellems was 31/2.8 and fouled out 4 times

yeah, espn's streaming ecosystem is annoying af. I have directv, I have the espn app and I can see some shit online, but then some stuff is ACCN (on the directv app) and I theoretically have espn+ bundled with disney+ but I haven't been able to get some stuff. Usually I don't think about it till the games like this start coming on and it's so annoying sorting through all the shit I usually just skip it.

Aslo, I know it's packinsider (lol) but these guys thinking this team is gonna get to the second round of the NCAAs... it's very optimistic.

I really liked the way all the freshmen looked for the most part. Ebenezer really had moments where he flashed to me. A few sloppy moves from all of them here or there but I'm liking the upside.

I missed the few minutes and didn't even see the Manny injury... that sucks.
