They’re being really scummy about squeezing every last penny out of developers

This is a refreshing change of pace, since previously they were only really scummy to all of their consumers.

Their App Store polices are actively hurting their developers and users and stifling innovation and inflating prices.

Fixed fee based on app sales. Payment processing should be inline with other payment processors.

Well the value they add is more than just payment processing. Platform development, Xcode development, api development, etc, etc

Not to mention fixed fees on cc transactions mean that it costs more than 3% to run small transactions. I imagine that apple has negotiated heavily on these but it’s still a real cost that a developer that has little volume leverage would need to pay.

We use a CRM that has its own virtual dialer numbers. The biggest downside to it is it looks like my whole team has peasant android phones.

iOS 16 is pretty cool. It adds the "unsend mail" feature that GMail had in 2015.

So Apple is the new 2015 era Google?

Their mail client has to work with numerous mail services and protocols. Gmail is a self-contained service.

Gmail also allows you to add POP3 accounts and select account types compatible with its Gmailify feature. TreeTwista10 makes a fair point.

I have not done that. Does doing so enable the unsend functionality on non-Gmail addresses, and if so, does it make use of the third party SMTP servers or Gmail's own?

Pretty sure the GMail app can send, receive and manage messages from nearly any email provider. The unsend feature isn't anything technologically special. It doesn't actually "unsend" an email that has been "sent", it just adds a delay before the email is actually sent, during which time you can choose to not send the email. It's more of a useful gimmick than anything, but leave it to Apple to advertise it as some groundbreaking new feature.

Nothing better than Google phones.

I have only ever owned Google smartphones, and will continue to do so.

Now 0EPII1, how can you say something is the best when you haven't even tried the competition?

I have always had Android phones, and Apple tablets.

I can appreciate features from both ecosystems. People who talk about Apple squeezing every last dime out of customers - they are correct. But Samsung does the same damned thing.

You can get a non-Samsung Android phone though. There is still probably price fixing etc, but there is at least some motive for competition when you have Samsung, Google, LG, Motorola, OnePlus, etc all offering different phones and support.

Best for me, of course: I have played around with friends' Samsungs and LGs, and sure, they have more impressive specs in terms of raw numbers (storage, camera resolution, RAM, battery capacity, etc), but I just prefer a barebones, pure Android phone from my experience.

Not sure what to think of this. On one hand, it's nice that iPhone users finally won't be completely locked into the app store and nothing else. Android users have had the ability to use things like the Amazon app store, let alone install APK files of any app they want. But since most iPhone users aren't very tech savvy, I could see how lots of malicious apps start flooding onto devices. Time will tell.
