Herbs the best coach we’ve had since V. All the criticisms of Herb are valid. Both statements are true. 3/19/2022 3:13:58 PM

I wouldn't say all the criticisms were valid. Some were, but some were incredibly dumb and had no bearing on his ability to coach or recruit. 3/19/2022 5:34:51 PM

his timing was off
the memories of the Valvano era were still relatively fresh and that was the biggest thing going against him
Herb in 2022 would be a much better fit than Herb in 1996 3/19/2022 8:30:16 PM

Even his successes were clouded by the first 5 years (plus the Les years) of his tenure. He had lost enough fans by then that unless he won a conference title (which he nearly did) or something major, he wasn’t winning a large portion of the fans back. Herb was a fine coach. He also should have been irreplaceable. But we’ve yet to make a good hire since….
The biggest fuck up was the fans (myself included, probably) not wanting John Beilein after Herb. He would’ve come. And likely would’ve been pretty successful
