Look, back to the point, and I'm being completely serious here. My political strategy, which is shared with a hell of a lot of people, is to support progressive Democrats in any way possible, and organize for a better system outside of that.

It is UP TO YOU to get moderate Democrats elected, if you feel it is important. Do the work - don't expect the dispassionate to do it for you.

No, I'm trying to tell you that China is still a repressive government with draconian policies that horrify people around the world, including its own citizens who cannot willingly speak out/assemble in the manner we can in the US. It's great that they've got infrastructure going for them, but so do other first world democracies with wider social safety nets than the shitty ones we have here.

Looks like Rose Twitter dipshits are gonna try to destroy NC Dems in 2022 because insinuating a massive Democrat conspiracy gets more clicks than accurately reporting the Green Party’s fraudulent ballot access efforts.

I will happily vote for any ballot measure that eliminates first past the post style elections, I love the idea of ranked choice.

That said, in our current system, fuck this kind of shit.

https://www.commondreams.org/news/2022/07/01/blatantly-partisan-nc-green-party-candidate-slams-state-dems-denying-ballot-petition

Everyone laffed and laffed when all those GOP governor candidates in Michigan got booted from the ballot for fraud. A Green candidate gets caught and the story gets twisted into the above link?

So I’m not an avid common dreams reader, but some people are. I think it matters that the narrative crafted by this story is likely to cause some progressives to sit at home in November. It takes 15 paragraphs before the article really extensively covers the alleged fraud and quotes the News and Observer and the BOE officials. Instead it quotes the Carolina Journal for multiple paragraphs, strongly insinuating that Dem BOE officials just booted the Greens off the ballot without cause. Carolina Journal is essentially a media arm of the NC GOP.

So you have this staff writer in Portland, ME, probably never set foot in NC, repackaging GOP talking points so it can be laundered back out into various left wing social media spheres. The narrative among many well meaning progressives is the Democrat machine is as corrupt as the GOP and they don’t vote in November. The part that really irks me is I don’t believe most of the social media news personalities that spread these narratives are really that genuine, most are chasing social media clout and trying to monetize it, that’s it. They don’t care that our state is teetering on an abortion ban (3 seats in the house and 2 seats in the Senate away from a GOP veto proof majority? *shudder*) That every year we don’t expand Medicaid we are leaving billions of healthcare dollars on the table, etc etc.

I just think there is a lot at stake for people to be (dishonestly in my view) throwing these stories around.

This thread is weird, the Dem thread is (I thought anyway) about democratic elected leaders, candidates and party leaders.

This thread seems to be mostly about individual citizens and maybe media?

Also I don't think that Ryan Knight guy is a "progressive dem"? He's actively 3rd party and anti Democrat party.

And who do you think these people actively target? Progressives

And if you read the first post, it definitely includes 'voters'

lol, we have a credibility watch for damn near every other group and various people, but suddenly we turn the spotlight on this group, it's an issue?

daave immediately just tries to turn it around and blames people who don't phone bank. He's just happy to point out that China has a way higher government approval rate (I wonder why?)

and you can't even admit that maybe, just maybe there's some truth all the reports, research, and data point to social media having a HUGE impact in 2016, certainly enough affect the results in 4 of the key states.

I love progressive ideas! Carbon tax! Clean Energy! Increase minimum wage! Increase taxes in the higher marginal tax rates including my own! Fuck yeah, lets do it.

However, the people who say shit like 'Let's impeach the justices on bullshit charges' or 'I'm not voting unless ALL my student loans are forgiven' don't help. Back in 2016 Progressives tried to say that Roe v Wade was a distraction, how'd that turn out?

I've always viewed the Dem credibility watch as a "our leaders" watch, not the individual voters. I'm cool if it's supposed to be that just didn't know.

Feels like having a "fans credibility watch" in Sports Talk in a way.

Can't vote to have new voters unfortunately.

Since AOC said that (I'm a way) I def consider it fair game

not really

you could’ve just said that you disagreed with something AOC said, but instead you decided to start a thread about an entire voting bloc of people who actually show up and vote. kind of weird that she’s the one who set you off, tbh

Why would it be weird if it was AOC that set me off? She is one of the ones spouting the dumb idea of impeachment.

Guess what? She's a member of Congress and can introduce articles if she wants. What is she waiting for? Or maybe she's just doing what most politicians do, fishing for a soundbite and fundraising with it.

Seem to be putting a lot of blame on a group that has so little representation in government.

Democrats are just as responsible for our backsliding democracy. Little gets done when they hold power because they can’t upset their wealthy donors and spend too much time cutting deals with a party that doesn’t care about rules and norms and will do anything to win.
