I just loaded up on incandescent bulbs and I’ll be dammed if I’m giving them back to Uncle Sam….come at me, broJoe!!1
Just to stick it to The Man, I replaced every single bulb in my home (even the hallway nightlights) with 300W halogens and run those bad boys all day/night. Have to run my AC 24/7 due to all of the heat output. 8/1/2023 3:14:28 PM |

If they wanna be accurate, they should call it the Bush-Obama-Biden Lightbulb Ban.
BUT NAY.
From https://spectrumlocalnews.com/nc/triangle-sandhills/news/2023/07/31/most-incandescent-light-bulbs-will-no-longer-be-sold-in-the-u-s--starting-tuesday
Quote : | "Jeff Hastings owns Burke Brothers Hardware store in Raleigh, North Carolina, and said he’s been preparing for the transition for years. The store is also responding to questions from customers.
“The younger generation doesn’t even ask anymore. They’re just going straight to the LEDs,” Hastings said. “It’s the older generation we’re just taking more time to explain and educate, what it’s like now and what it’s going to be like going forward.”
Burke Brothers transitioned to using LEDs in the store about seven years ago, Hastings said.
“In this store, seven years ago, we switched over completely from fluorescent to LEDs, and our energy savings the first month went down $300 ... within about seven months the light bulbs paid for themselves.”
But the regulation hasn’t sat well with everyone.
In a Congressional hearing in July, Rep. Scott Perry, R-Pa., said the incandescent ban is part of a regulatory assault on home appliances.
“I sure am happy the Department of Energy is out here making sure that we can all save money, because we’re too dumb to figure it out ourselves,” Perry said.
Hastings admits it’s a learning curve for some customers used to traditional light bulbs.
“It’s just treating one customer at a time, letting them know it will be fine,” Hastings said." |
Lol
Burke Brothers: “We saved a bunch of money over the years using new technology.”
Scott Perry: "We’re stupid and want to double down on stupid, just to be contrarian. Would love to bring back lead paint and drink it, just to own the libs!”8/1/2023 4:11:00 PM |

Yea, I swear I remember this being a thing under Bush. I guess it didn't get fully implemented?
I like the LED lights in our house, but I'm not seeing the longevity advertised. Sure, when they work, they work for 10 years or more, but I've had issues with them flat out failing. I guess some circuitry inside burned out or something.
Oh and lol at all those purple LED road/yard lights put out by Duke.

via that article:
Quote : | "It was under the George W. Bush administration when Congress passed the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 to increase efficiency of bulbs. The standards were finalized under the Obama administration.
But the gradual transition to LED light bulbs has been slowed by delays in Congress and the Trump administration’s efforts to stop the changeover." |
Because of course it did.8/1/2023 4:28:37 PM |

I also like to keep my upstairs thermostat set at 60 and the downstairs at 85...seems to balance my temps out to a comfortable 70ish and also sticks it to the libs by wasting all of that sweet dinosaur juice 8/1/2023 6:18:30 PM |

Don't get shitty LED bulbs. When we moved into our house 5 years ago it was fully kitted out with new Sylvania LED lightbulbs after a big renovation. After we moved in I slowly started swapping out every light with Philips Hue LED lights. I've now swapped out basically every single bulb, but during the transition over the last five years I have had several of the Sylvania bulbs begin to flicker, buzz, or otherwise not work as expected. Meanwhile the Hue lights have been bulletproof and in the exact same fixtures and power plugs. I've added Hue strip lights under furniture, on top of the cabinets, put indoor bulbs outside and none of them have begun to act up. Hue lights are certainly not cheap, but I believe they have a better chance of making it to the advertised usage time than any others.8/3/2023 6:47:20 PM |

I remember my coworker in ~2006 bragging about buying 200 incandescent bulbs to prevent the government from taking his light. When I moved to Australia in 2008 the power company there mailed you free mini florescent bulbs. This has been talked about forever. I have all led bulbs now and thank God because the kids leave every light in the house on 8/3/2023 9:09:06 PM |

^^I've had a $70 Hue bulb fail on me. I didn't pay 70 for it, got them on a sale at Lowes, but that's what they retailed for at the time. 8/4/2023 9:04:55 AM |

I feel like LED bulbs don’t come close to their listed life expectancy sometimes. Or maybe just a few particular models of Satco bulbs idk. And they seem to dim over time8/4/2023 7:16:52 PM |
