Draftkings has a "King of the Court" thing for the NBA where you place a bet on a player prop with -500 minimum odds, and if that player leads the league in P+R+A for that day, you get a share of $1M in bonus bets. I picked Luka points last night and lost the bet, but got a $36 bonus bet. Taking Giannis tonight

Trae Young won it last night and it looks like the bonus bets were $290. So while guys like Luka and Jokic are probably safer bets, the bonus bets will be lower for them if more people pick them. But I'm going with Jokic today.

Interesting about the DK thing, I will try that tonight.

Another successful parlay of overs/unders. Getting good at those early in the year. 4 pick parlay hit last night. I'm hammering anything in the 200s for over.

yolo'd my bonus bet on OKC -11 vs POR. Looks like Zion was the play tonight if my math is correct, so I lost $0.10 on Jokic but won $208.69 on the bonus bet.

King of the Court is back, but now you have to do a $5 minimum bet with -200 minimum odds. Going Anthony Davis tonight.

I saw Erin Pare is trying to pass a law to make our taxes easier https://www.wral.com/story/north-carolina-sets-sports-betting-record-in-october-total-wagered-eclipses-600-million/21719101/ so hopefully that works out.

not being able to deduct losses is total BS. if you won $10k but lost $11k in the year not only did you lose $1k to the app but now you owe NC taxes on the $10k

Why should they be tax deductible is a better question

It's not that you should specifically be able to deduct your losses. It's that you should be taxed on your net winnings. If you go into a casino and win $1000, and then bet $900 on a hand of poker and lose, your net wins/losses is $100. And you're taxed on $100. You aren't taxed on the $1000 win.

It would be like if you owned stocks and you were taxed every time they gained value, even if they then lost value.

I mean, they're both just betting on what you think will happen. If you buy into a $1000 poker game in Vegas, and you get your chips up to $2500, but eventually go all in and lose.. Should you have to pay taxes on $2500 of temporary chips ,even though the actual net result is you lose $1000?

or since most people dont win its more likely you lost $1100 after winning $1000.

many thousands of people in NC are going to be surprised and pissed when they get a w2 showing winnings when they actually lost

Realistically there's no way to maintain sports betting if the losses can't be deducted. The system is already built such that you need to win 55% of bets to break even and if you can't deduct losses then there is no way to be profitable.

(gambling isn't meant to be profitable to anyone but the people taking the bets)

^Making the people who take the bets lose money is very easy, it's just not worth my time if I also lose money as well due to how it's taxed.
