I have VLC and some old stuff, but I get so annoyed by all the blogspam and my reliance on random sites for file conversions and adding subtitles to videos and whatever. even for music downloads, I remember there used to be decent sites for just downloading or you could just do it the official way and pay. now I try to do some stuff once in a while but it feels like I'm grasping at stuff I never really did myself (storing it offline on like a thumb drive) but I feel like I'm just going backwards and it is pointless

it's funny cause I have a solid grasp on some tech beyond what's on screen, from my adventures in middle school, but on some others I'm clueless cause I never needed to go beyond the user interface, and even though I can quickly learn it, it feels like Windows 11 works against me half the time when I try

I guess part of it is because everyone tries to be so "user-friendly" nowadays that people just don't have the opportunity to develop technical skills cause they aren't forced to... Interestingly the same is happening with cars, it seems.

Some older versions of adobe I have make it so much easier to customize and do stuff but newer stuff is so annoying

I don't really watch anything that I'd need to do my own conversions and stuff for, but if I want music, it's all about dubious Youtube downloader websites

I still use ssyoutube.com sometimes but I've mostly switched to https://github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp. especially if you want the HD video encodings.
