I don’t pretend to know who the best candidate actually is. But I like the risk/reward of hiring Gainey. There will always be some hot shot mid major that might or might not actually work out that we can hire. This is a chance to hire an alum with a good coaching reputation even if he is inexperienced at the HC level. If Gainey goes elsewhere and has success we might not get a chance to hire him again. Lock him up now. If he doesn’t work out then it’s not different than any other coach we’ve had in the last 40 years.

Bobby Hurley is a shit ass head coach and an even bigger asshole than the guy who just left. It's got nothing to do with going to Duke. You can put up with that level of assholery when you win all the time (see: Dan Hurley) but to willingly hire a guy like that who has proven he can't cut it above the mid-major level is a terrible idea.

His career at ASU is essentially a slightly worse version of Kevin Keatts. Only instead of being a genuinely likeable guy, he's a huge dickhead.

You think Mike White is better than him though? I'm not so sure. You give Bobby Hurley Florida's resources and I think he could at least make the tourney every year (Mike White failed that bar).

But yeah, if you don't like his on court personality, I could see that being a deal breaker for some people. I've never really seen anything about him being as asshole outside of basketball though.

in this case, the context was mid December right as projections were coming out of us being on track for a 7 seed. Which actually improved a smidge before we went and had a collapse in the last third of the season.

And I don't even know what to tell you about having a stick up your ass on the NIL stuff. Nobody can prove any of those numbers. But the same people "hearing" LSU now has 15mil to pay told us UNC had 14mil this year. So I find that number hard to believe for LSU when they are also trying to light a fire under football NIL for Kiffin.

But who knows, maybe they always had that kind of money for basketball and we should question the shit out of Wade's ceiling if that was the kind of dough he was working with when he was there.
