I was reading that gen z says ankle socks are a dead giveaway to being a millennial. That longer crew socks are whats "in" now. I'm not part of the fashion zeitgeist, as some people call it.

I am however a millennial and have always preferred ankle socks

Just got some crew socks today to wear with my chuck taylor allstars I got to use for leg day at the gym. I think i should have went with "mid crew" socks, these seem too high so i scrunched them down a little lower. First pair of long socks I've gotten like ever pretty much

Kinda like this:

I've always been a crew socks guy. Ankle socks drive me crazy.

Very occasionally I used to roll into school with my baseball socks (with stirrups painted on) jacked up to my knees.

Drive you crazy how? Didn't like the sensation of air touching your legs or something? Or more like an amish type thing where you don't want to see someones skin?

^^ I'd not examined my exact motivation...I don't think it's Amish prudery.

It's partially feeling like my skin is exposed to large dirt particles that might lodge in deep near my feet

But much as anything, it's the lack of slack and discretion to adjust my socks to the height I wish. Like having a short blanket. Just knowing that I'm near the boundary is upsetting.

Slightly above ankle crew.

Not the kind where it feels like your shoe is about to eat your sock.

Red circle is what i consider ankle, some images on google make it like yellow circle is ankle. Green circle I’ve seen described as mid crew. So i guess mid crew and quarter crew are the same. Thats what i'm gonna buy next time. I normally wear running/walking shoes as my daily drivers, and with ankle you can just see the top little bit of sock. The ones that barely hook over your heel seems to be hard to keep on if the elastic gets stretched

low cut like the red circle. anything shorter and they're liable to come off your heel into your shoe if the elastic starts to wear out.

The first type of sock has to be a joke. Or only worn by women in closed toe heels or something.

Got these earlier, the crew was the same brand too. Cheapest walmart had since I just wanted these for testing purposes. Like them more than crew. Need to get some quarter crew now to confirm they are the same thing just different names. This brand conveniently doesn't make a "quarter crew" variety, which only reinforces my view that it is the same thing.

I feel like i've heard "quarter" socks a lot more than "mid crew"

I wonder why gen z thinks ankle socks are so terrible? Def seems like crew are the worse of the 2

We also need clarity on what exactly THEY consider as uncool ankle socks.

no preference really

I just go with the standard gold toe white socks usually

it seems like most other types of socks make my feet sweat, but those never have

Does anyone really care what Gen Z says are cool or not when it comes to... socks? Seriously, who gives a fuck what they think about what you wear between your foot and your shoes? I think that wearing shorts with socks pulled halfway up to your calf looks dumb outside of sports, but if people wanna wear it, knock yourself out.

For me it is ankle socks in the summer (either yellow or red on StTexan's picture while I'm wearing shorts, maybe a little longer if I am wearing trousers or at work. Then in the winter, a little longer socks just for warmth.
