ATTENTION ALL SENATORS!!!!!

submitted by redbed18 on Thursday, October 11 2001 at 1:10 AM

On Wednesday, October 10th a bill was read to the Student Senate on the subject of allocating funds to an Ethics Subcommitee for the impeachment of Senator Palin. Along with other programs, the one that will be hardest hit is the Wolf Aides program. In the proposed bill the budget of the Wolf Aides program will be cut to $1000 after not long ago being cut to $1500. I understand the fact that it is a semester program. However, as many have stated, it takes more to tape record something as well as University Housing! The program consists of 19 freshman and 9 directors. How can anyone expect a program to be run on $1000 with 28 people in it?

Finally, all I ask is for the Senator's that care about their constinuancy, to vote against this bill when it comes up in the next meeting. You may not consider us part of Student Government... but we consider you leaders part of us.

Thank you all,
Adam Freseman (Wolf Aides Member)

I am not for or against anything, but i have to say something in defense of the people wanting to make the cuts. I know it sound awful, but it's really not that bad. First of all, 9 of the 28 are directors, and I don't really count them as part of the monetary needs of the organization, since they have all been through the program and require not quite as much as everyone else. Second, that leaves 19 people. 1000/19 is approx. 50 bucks a piece. Not much? Well, that's 50 dollars that you think is a pitiful amount for other students to be contributing to you. Instead of whining like every other organization, why don't the Wolf Aides find creative ways to cut costs and be thankful that there is money to run the organization at all. I'm not trying to be mean, but you have to see the perspective that everybody's taking a hit.

p.s. I don't agree with 2000 dollars to oust a senator any more than you do.

i would like to add (as a senator on the finance committee) that the bill asked that monies be taken from various programs basically because the author of the bill just picked some random organizations to take money from. the finance committee will actually decide where the money gets cut from, and will offer changes to the bill accordingly. the finance committtee will do its best, i assure you, to be fair in the choosing of costs to cut, that is if any costs are cut for this at all. as mentioned by efab (the author of the bill) at the senate meeting last night, the finance committee may deem it necessary to allocate more than 2000 gs, less, or even nothing at all. whatever the case may be, rest assured we will not blindly pick organizations to cut at will, but will instead probably spend hours of our (i.e. finance comittee folks') time deliberating on how best to treat the situation, cause that's our job, both in regards to the wolf aides program, and to all of the students of our university.

If Wolf Aides has nothing to worry about macngz, then why is there a proposal to cut its funding again??

SG has a shit load of cash leftover so far this year, and dont tell me i'm wrong. $5K from the SG retreat has not all been spent on something else this year.

Well i think redbed is doing much more then whining here Sunkissed, otherwise he wouldn't be lobbying for support against the cuts, durrr. To have one of SG's best programs cut to $1000 with 30 memebers and a needbase for plenty of growth, I say FIND $$ ELSEWHERE!!!

I am a little confused...Why does it take that much money to get rid of Gary?! I know lots of people that will do it for free. HEHE.

roguewolf, last spring, we all lobbyed against the budget cuts, but after that, so did every other organization that got threatened, i'm not saying that the wolf aides are whining, just that maybe their time would be better spent helping people think of other places for the money to come from or figuring out how to cut their own costs

i agree with you slmncsu, i'm still not grasping why it costs so much to get rid of Gary

i would like to think that WolfAides already has thought of a way sunkissed, not to take any $$ from them at all for a impeachment process

$2K is a crazy amount of $$ for the trial...but its all in the name of politics....if the Subcommitte can't get the right eqiupment (which needs $2K supposedly) then the impeachment is nullified.
And so we are presented with our current problem...

politics... the magical word, i'd have to say that if it comes down to funding Wolf Aides or impeaching Gary, my personal choice would be to fund the Wolf Aides, i've kinda dissed the Wolf Aides in this whole thing, but I really didn't understand the situation, now that I do, I think my perspective has changed alot

I was a member of the Wolf-Aides last year, and I do understnad that a great deal of work goes into sustaining the program. If it is possible by any means, I would like to see them maintain their funding because the program has great leadership and will grow after the success of this year. I do not know the ins and outs of appropriations, but I know that there are great plans for the gprgram this year and if it is possible to avoid the cuts it would be best! I must also admit that I do not know all of the other organizations that will face cuts, but I do know first that the Wolf-Aides program is certainly worth the money!
