You've Read In, Now Speak Out and March

submitted by tcaravano on Monday, September 16 2002 at 3:13 PM

As displayed last Thursday when hundreds of students gathered to protest the library hours, we are becoming more and more vigilant of the activity of the General Assembly and the affects their decisions have on our futures. We do not want to stop with simply changing the library hours (which was successful), but we want to show legislators that we are aware, we will mobilize when necessary and that we will vote in mass numbers in November for those who are supporting us and our education.
Please join us in educating ourselves and defending ourselves!:

Monday, September 16: Town Hall Meeting 7-9pm Witherspoon Student Center (Discussion of the affects of tuition increases and budget cuts on students and the university ie. course sections, services and refurbishing etc.)

Tuesday, September 17: March on the Capitol 12:30-2 gather in front of Bell Tower and march at 1pm (funeral procession "Death of education in the state," so please wear black)

If you have any questions, contact:
Michael D. Anthony, Student Body President
in the Student Government office at 515-2797.

the "funeral" is a poor idea in my opinion. if you don't take the protest seriously, the legislature certainly isn't going to take you seriously.

besides, the budget will either be passed or past the stage where it can be changed by the time you guys march. it's going to be ceremonial at best.

best of luck anyhow.

Very true, it is not our goal to change the current budget...as you said that is impossible. We are sending the message that we are watching the activity of the General Assembly and that we are preparing to take steps to make changes where it is in our control. Thanks for the support!
