Herpetology Club at State

submitted by Crotalus on Friday, October 29 2004 at 12:40 AM

Some friends are I are underway getting a herpetology club started here at State. I'm posting this advertisement to see how many other people are interested. If you have any interest or questions please email me (Kevin Messenger) at HerpsRule2@aol.com. The club will primarily focus on field trips, helping out with research, husbandry, and promoting educational events such as Reptile and Amphibian day at the Museum of Natural Sciences. As of now, we have plans to go to the Keys over Xmas break. Other trips have yet to be decided.

^ oh boy

This is going to be one hell of a student group, hopefully lots of trips to Florida, SC, the NC Coast and possibly Louisiana over Spring Break. Besides the basics, there will be opportunity for students to find out about internships, research and career opportunities in Herpetology, and learn about ongoing research and development here at NCSU. The webpage should be up and running shortly, more to be posted later.

since some ppl seriously are ignorant and can't read context clues; herpetology is the study of reptiles and amphibians. we already have a bunch of reptile ppl, we need some more amphibian ppl to help balance it out.

FINALLY.... all the talk was getting me anxious. Bout damn time you got this thing underway. Should be a great club to get into. Those of you who realize that we can't help you cure your various STDs should definitely check it out. For the rest of you, good luck. Just wondering, will the club be hitting up any of the local herp shows at all? I know there are several around here (NC and SC). Also, anyone who knows anything about skin conditions in snakes, please get ahold of me ASAP. Got some questions for you. Oh, and if anyone ever finds any DORs in good condition let me know. I will take them off your hands if you can hang on to them for a bit. Glad you finally got it started bud.

Awesome! What a great time to be at NC State. There's nothing better than being around those who share a common interest and love for amphibians and reptiles, and this club will provide just that....and more! A chance to learn about research, husbandry, etc.....and come on....imagine YOU, amongst other herp enthusiasts, heading towards the bright, hot sun of Florida (and potentially other places) to get up close and personal in the field with all sorts of fascinating herps...good times! Spread the word about this new club and all that it has to offer!

I think it's a great idea... Wish I had come up with it... lol If you need an amphib guy, let me know. I don't know too many exotics, but i've got most of the local species within three or four states on lockdown. Btw, Kevin Messenger is a beyatch and Zach B is a wannabe with a big head.... Enjoy.

well its the moment at least some of us have been waiting for. im disappointed, kevin, that you didnt talk to me anymore about the first trip to the keys over the break. i'd really like to tag along if still possible. cant wait to meet the other herp fans i've talked to and heard so much about. i just hope that the club meetings dont end up being scheduled during my class times like it seems every other interesting club has done to me. maybe ill even find someone else who finds interest in leaf tail geckos like my own. keep us posted kevin.

^ we're allowing approx 10 ppl to go. unfortunately with herp trips, the more ppl u get the less you see. and we don't want ppl all over the place getting bit left and right by diamondbacks and shit. so thats why we are trying to keep it fairly small.

JOE, you are the man. Thanks a lot for the 2 crotalus horridus. I'll get em done over the break and have em back after xmas. Anybody else who has or finds any good DORs, if you would save them for me I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Got my skins up on my pics, check them out. They are as follows: elaphe guttata, several agkistrodon contortrix, Nerodia erythrogaster, and I believe a Nerodia sipedon... correct me if I'm wrong. Pretty soon I'll have the crotalus horridus skins up, they should turn out great.

^ little tough to see the one on the far left, but the broken bands on the posterior look like N. sipedon to me. The skins look great. Do you do this just for fun, or for some side money or what?

^Just for fun. Eventually I'd like to tan them nice enough to make some stuff w/ them. Right now they are just for decoration. I plan on building some frames for them. Hopefully after that they'll look better.
