Tomorrow Ghostland Observatory is on Conan. I heard about them from the Music of 2007 thread. Also, PJ Harvey is on Leno. Word.

How about the Shins opening their encore last night with Pink Floyd's "Breathe".... holy shit!!

I cannot believe that Stars sold out. That new album is god awful. Has anyone found anything redeeming in that pile of shit?

I don't like the new album either but I'm willing to bet we get 5 songs at most off the new one.

figure it's time to put the troika schedule up. 305 South is noticeably absent this year as a venue. apparently the city finally shut them down because of their restroom situation.

and of course two of the nicest (and my favorites) maple stave and megafaun at the same venue/time. and evan of mplstv says push pull and hazerai are damn good too. i'm looking forward to it. too bad the sets are only 30 minutes, but it is a good way to see a lot of good bands in one night.

^ last show of the year? Not a fan of Josh Ritter, Band of Horses or the return trip by Polyphonic Spree? (November 5th, 1st and 13th in the order listed).

Also, those who went to see Stars last night, thoughts? My girlfriend went and she loved it, but I avoided that show like the plague because I thought the new album was such shit.

She also said the crowd was really into it, which is surprising considering how shitty the Cradle crowds have grown over the years.

Anyone know who the two acts were that opened for The Future Islands on Friday night at Raleigh Music Hall? One was a solo accoustic and the other was a last-minute replacement for Tron Valdez.

Sorry, didn't mean to offend.

I only ask the name of the first guy because my friends and I can't stop talking about how terrible he was. "Come on down to Lovetown/Goin' to Lovetown/Lovin' Love in Lovetown/A' Fuckin' You Lovetown."

Lonnie Walker was great.

$5. More noise per buck than you're likely to get elsewhere.

great show tonight @ Disco

MWY & Thrice were amazing, Brand New was lame as always. Srsly, do they think they're so good they don't have to entertain? Sheesh.

The whole show was 100dB too loud, thank heavens for earplugs.

^^ seems like Brand New thinks they're the best of the 3. I just that "mightier than thou" vibe from them for whatever reason.

but yeah, straight up MWY was the best. the drummer played for awhile with a beanie over his eyes, and then like half a song with a hoodie engulfing his arm. high-larious

Hadn't heard MWY before but their music was awesome. Wish they'd have muted the damn lead singer though, he fucked it all up.

Thrice kicked some serious ass.

Why was Brand New even there?

That encore they did with all three bands up on stage was absolutely incredible though, I'd never seen that before.

Anyways...

I got my Dan Deacon tixs and I'm amped about that!
Local 506 just announced Tilly and the Wall on March 18th so I'll definitely check that out.
The Yo La Tengo show could be interesting. I've never enjoyed a lot of banter or storytelling among bands mostly wanting to just hear the music but I might give it a chance.

MWY's lead singer took me AWHILE to get used to. Musically, they're amazing tho. His voice does make 'em "unique," FWIW
