Yeah I think one of the main reasons he will stay is because of how many guys stayed last year due to the NBA uncertainty. This is probably gonna be a fairly loaded draft and so I think he may decide its best to work on his game one more year and hopefully get himself a much higher pick next year. I sure hope this happens because we have a chance to be really good next year especially with the assumption that Carolina has a mass exodus.

Even IF he leaves, we will still have DP and RH next year as well as TJ warren who can get some serious burn as a touted freshman. It is not horrific as when Hodge was contemplating an exit after his junior year, leaving us with gavin grant and ilian evtimov.

And if you think about it, stying that extra year did nothing to really help Hodge, and he may have been better off if he left/

Hodge was never gonna stick in the NBA.

That extra year allowed him to be ACC POY and knock out UConn in the tourney. I doubt he regrets coming back.

exactly. he was POY and the front page of SI for crying out loud. Plus Dicky V was slobing all over him.

Hodge had peaked both physically and as a player. CJ isn't close to peaking in either aspect. Its not even a valid comparison.

Physically yes, but as a player? No. Everyone said that he needed to further develop his perimeter game to become something of a francisco garcia type because his dribble drive wouldn't work in the NBA. But his draft stock definitely peaked.

But he had peaked. He never got any better than he was at State. Thats what I'm worried about with Leslie. He's gotten by on talent alone to this point.

i just found these quotes at the top of page 16.

Quote :
""Howells numbers last season 18.2 mins, 7.4 pts, 6.5 reb.
Translate that to 30 minutes and it's 12.2 pts, 10.7 reb""

Quote :
"that is an awful argument
why not project his stats over 40 minutes? just as realistic"

he's actually averaging 26.9 mins, 10.8 pts, 9.3 rbs.

Yeah, Face was spot on about Howell and his rebounding.

If Howell can cut down on the stupid fouls, he should easily average a double-double next year.

Like the foul where he went for a clear and open jam in the BC game?

So what, he puts his hand on a guy's shoulder and they call a foul?

I mean...Howell knew it was an obvious foul. He was laughing his ass off. He knows he can't get up for a dunk like that without leverage.

he had some impressive dunks, but he did make a few silly errors, and missed a few jump shots. how many times has he stepped on the baseline this season?

You watch the game yesterday? He missed all of his jump shots (2 or 3 iIIRC), was 1 of 4 from the free throw line, and made a couple dumb turnovers. If anything, yesterday further proved that he's NOT ready for the NBA.

His 11 boards were awesome though.

I think it was last game that he committed a goal-tending after the shooter was already fouled... he almost did it again yesterday.

He is in the top10 of the ACC in many categories though. In fact, we have guys in the top10 in most of the categories, it's quite refreshing: http://www.theacc.com/sports/m-baskbl/stats/2011-2012/confldrs.html (Lorenzo Brown is 1st in steals and 2nd in assists)

^^He had one goal-tending call against him yesterday, and one that would have been goal-tending, but the foul was called before the shot got off.

Couple of ridiculous decisions, but he was the game changer out there. The play where he muscled the ball away, and fed it to Wood was amazing.

He threw the arm out there, but luckily it didn't really connect and the guy flopped like crazy.

This guy is also NOT ready for the NBA. Gotta get that jump shot down son....Mike Scott style.

"Leslie growing up before our eyes

Submitted by ldecock on 03/09/2012 - 17:25 Tags: ACC Now | State Now | C.J. Leslie | Lorenzo Brown | Mark Gottfried | N.C. State

One of the big differences between pro sports and college sports is that, for the most part, the college kids are just that -- kids.

There’s the odd 18- or 19-year-old on a pro team, but for the most part they’ve been to college or fought their way up through the minors. College teams are loaded with 18-year-olds, of course, and there are times where boys become men before our eyes.

That’s happening right now with C.J. Leslie, who is growing up so fast on so many levels. The detached, sulking Leslie that stumbled through his freshman year at N.C. State is gone, replaced by a confident, driven young man who’s taking over games. He may sense the NBA approaching rapidly, but that’s no reason not to appreciate the growth in Leslie, who will turn 22 in June.

As he has been for the last month, Leslie was a demon on the court in today’s win over Virginia. At one point, Lorenzo Brown asked for the ball back. Leslie shrugged him off, took his man to the rim and scored. Not long after, while his teammates conceded a rebound and went back on defense, Leslie tore the ball out of Akil Mitchell’s hands in what may have been the hustle high point of his entire N.C. State career.

Leslie finished with 19 points and 14 rebounds, yet none of that was impressive as his performance in the postgame press conference. There were no mumbles, no monosyllables from Leslie today, only a speech that would have seemed patently impossible 12 months ago.

“First off, I want to say this: Coach (Mark) Gottfried has done an amazing job with me, keeping me in the game, telling me I can do it, just sticking with me through all the tough times I’ve had,” Leslie said. “He’s done good making sure my head is in the right place.

“I can’t say I did it on my own. He’s done great with that. For that, I basically patted him on the back and did everything he wanted me to do and put myself and our team in a great place.”

Sitting next to him at the podium, Gottfried positively beamed with pride, like a parent whose child just aced the SATs. Leslie was his project from Day 1, from the day he took over at State for Sidney Lowe, the whole insistence on calling him “Calvin” included. Now, he’s seeing results.

“C.J.’s a changed guy this year,” said Brown, who was also on the podium with Leslie and Gottfried. “I’ve known him since he was 14 and I’ve never heard him say anything like that. I’m so happy for him that he’s acting like this now.”

Gottfried’s other big project was getting N.C. State back on the national map. Maybe today’s win did that. Maybe not. But helping Leslie emerge from his shell both as a player and person may, in the long run, be more impressive -- and more important."

Note: say what you want about Decock, but at least he reads his articles. And I say "reads" rather than "proofreads", because it is evident that, for one, JP Giglio does not even read his, much less proofread them.

Sometimes it really feels like he does the goaltends knowing theyre goaltends. Like he's using them to get himself into the game or make a statement to the other team (or himself) about how hard he's going to play.

I'd give up 2-4 points a game to get Leslie playing full speed.

/And other times they just look like stupid goaltends

I was thinking something similar about the goaltending. It may look like a stupid play but he's showing the other team, "don't bring that shit in here again".

That foul made me angry. Way too hard, to the point of being intentional.

But it was one of his only made free throws of the night.

1/5 from the line today. 1/4 yesterday.
But... But 9/11 from the field today, 19pt, 14rbs. And he's easily averaging a double-double in the last 9 games.
