I actually ended up randomly talking to a friend of the girl last night who told me that she had 4 LITs between 9 and 11.

Apparently she had a big fight with her sister that night and ended up sneaking back to her car and driving off even though a number of friends stopped her from doing so a short while before.

OFFICER FINDS ANOTHER OFFICER DRUNK IN POLICE CRUISER AND CANT FIND HIS GUN

Quote :
"METAIRIE - Videotape released by Causeway Police details the drunk driving arrest of fired Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s sergeant Dominick Imbornone Sunday.

Imbornone, a 15-year veteran of the JPSO until his termination Monday, was arrested by St. Tammany deputies after being taken in by Causeway police officers who spotted him on the bridge Sunday.

The Causeway police report, and video obtained by Eyewitness News through a public records request, shows that an officer found Imbornone asleep in his police unit, parked in one of the emergency turning lanes on the bridge.

The Causeway police officer "began knocking on the window of the vehicle, yelling and sounding the siren...trying to rouse the driver," the report says. When Imbornone finally woke up, he "appeared to be very disoriented," and had a strong odor of alcohol.

The video shows the Causeway police officer struggling to get Imbornone out of his JPSO unit, and later Imbornone is heard asking the arresting officer just “to take him home.”

Imbornone asks the officer an incoherent question "about how many miles left," according to the report and the video, and when asked if he had been drinking, responded at first that he had had two glasses of wine, but then said he was unsure of how much alcohol he had drank. The officer transported Imbornone to the St. Tammany Parish jail, where he was booked.

This is the second time Imbornone has been arrested fpr driving drunk. In October 2007, police pulled him over in his police cruiser for driving drunk near Cleary Ave. and W. Napoleon. He was suspended after being booked with reckless operation and DWI charges."

"Cary, N.C. — A 32-year-old woman on probation for driving while impaired faces the same charge again after police say she caused two wrecks in Cary Crossroads shopping center Saturday night.

Police said that Golden Angela Garrette was involved in a wreck at Walnut and Meeting streets shortly before 9:30 p.m. She kept driving on Meeting Street but wrecked for a second time at Crossroads Boulevard.

Garrette abandoned her vehicle and fled, but officers apprehended her after a short foot chase, police said.

Some other motorists suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene.

Garrette was charged with hit-and-run, along with DWI. She was released from the Wake County jail Sunday morning after posting a $15,000 bond. Her first court appearance was set for Monday.

Garrette is serving 2 years' probation for a 2008 DWI conviction in Guilford County, according to state Department of Correction records. She was also convicted of assaulting or threatening a government official."

RENO, Nev. -- Police pulled over one SUV and took two men into custody on suspicion of drunken driving. A motorist reported a driver committing several traffic violations from Sparks into Reno on Saturday night. The caller suspected the driver was intoxicated and followed the vehicle to a fast food restaurant.

Sgt. Rob VanDiest said the witness told police he watched the passenger pull a man from the driver's seat and carry him to the passenger's side, then got behind the wheel and began to drive away when officers arrived.

VanDiest said both men were found to be at least three times over the legal limit and were arrested.

"ROCKVILLE, Md. — A man has been charged with driving drunk and hitting the car of a retired Maryland judge who once spared him jail time in previous drunk driving case. The suspect, 45, was scheduled to be in court Wednesday to face trial on eight charges related to the August crash where he hit a car being driven by retired Montgomery County District Judge Edwin Collier. Collier, 86, and his wife Ellen Collier, 82, were both injured in the crash.

Collier presided over a case in 1998 in which police charged the man with drunk driving after an officer saw his car idling in a parking lot and gave him a sobriety test. He pleaded guilty in that case, and Collier spared him jail time, even though the man had been arrested on drunk driving charges twice in three months."

I like how MADD and the general social mindset likes to lump any person that is foolish and recieves a DUI with a BAC at 0.08 with those that are grossly in excess of the limit to which one is capable of driving. From this graph the 0.08 drivers are marginally more likely to have an accident than those with 0.05 or even 0.00 (i'd be willing to be women chatting on the cell phone, sleepy drivers, and teens texting are higher). The outlier cases of someone barrelling down Western Blvd at 90 mph and end up killing/hurting someone are in all likelihood going to be the drivers on the right hand side of the graph at 0.2+ BAC.

Setting the BAL limit in a grey area that's difficult to judge for yourself acts as an additional deterrent to driving after consuming any alcohol and allows for greater revenues from fines.

"ATHENS, Tenn. — An East Tennessee man driving a lawn mower in the road has been charged with DUI. Athens police said 30-year-old Jimmy Graham Jr. smelled like alcohol and failed a sobriety test Monday after an officer spotted him on the lawn mower. He told the officer he had consumed a beer and taken a stress reliever prescribed to him.

A jailer said Graham was in custody Tuesday and there was no record of him having a lawyer.

The Daily Post-Athenian in Athens reported that Graham was also charged with aggravated burglary and theft under $500.

A police report shows Graham told the officer he had stopped by a house to pick up some fishing poles. Police said the man who lives at the house where Graham had stopped on the mower told police the fishing poles were stolen from his garage."

"CUMBERLAND COUNTY (WTVD) -- Authorities say a 1998 Ford Expedition rear-ended a Cumberland County school bus Friday afternoon when the bus stopped on Pritchett Road near Cliffdale Road.

It happened just before 3:00 p.m. as the driver, 49-year-old Charles Wynn, was taking students home from Lewis Chapel Middle School.

Officials say 18 students were on board bus 511 at the time of the crash. One student from the bus and a child from the SUV were transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Three other students were later taken to the hospital by parents.

"All the injuries seem to be bumps and bruises, nothing major at this time," Cumberland County Transportation Director Al Miller said.

Officials say when authorities arrived at the scene of the crash, the driver of the SUV was determined to be at fault. However while at the scene, police say they smelled alcohol on Wynn's breath and issued a field sobriety test. He blew a 0.20 -- well over the legal limit of 0.08.

Wynn has been charged with driving while subject to impairing substance, operating a school bus after consuming alcohol and driving while impaired while operating a commercial vehicle.

"For a person to come to school drunk ... I wish I had the answer," Miller said.

Officials say Wynn is a substitute bus driver for Cumberland County Schools and is also employed as a night custodian at 71st High School.

School officials say Wynn is suspended pending an investigation.

Meanwhile, the driver of the SUV, 29-year-old Travis Hunter, has been charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and operating a vehicle with a revoked license."

"Florida Man Drank While Waiting for Sobriety Test, Cops Say

BELLEVIEW, Fla. -- Authorities say a central Florida man took one last swig of alcohol while waiting to take a sobriety test.

Marion County Sheriff's deputies stopped 61-year-old Dana Seaman after noticing his car swerve three times. Seaman said he'd been drinking and agreed to a sobriety test.

But first, Deputy Eric Larson said he watched Seaman drink from a cup and toss it under the passenger seat. According to a police report, the cup smelled strongly of alcohol.

Seaman refused a breath test. He has been charged with DUI.

A message left for Seaman was not immediately returned Monday.

"RALEIGH -- A man on his way to meet with his lawyer about a driving while impaired charge was stopped Thursday morning by a Raleigh police officer and charged with another DWI, according to court records.

William Marion Lewis, 47, of Apex was headed to downtown Raleigh when he got stopped on Tryon Road south of town. It was not yet 10 a.m., but Lewis had a blood alcohol level of .25, more than three times the legal limit of .08, records show.

"Oh, I see I'm being locked up today," Lewis said after Wake magistrate Chris Graves put him in the Wake County jail in lieu of $10,000 bail. Graves, deeming Lewis a "danger to the public" seized his 2003 Kia to be sold at public auction.

Raleigh police Sgt. G.M. Smith stopped the Kia about 9:30 a.m. after the car "came to an abrupt stop for a vehicle that was in front of him." Smith also noted that the Kia was partly off the road.

Lewis had "red, glassy eyes, a strong odor of alcohol on his breath," Smith said, and did poorly on a field sobriety test.

Apex police stopped Lewis on April 25, charging him with DWI, resisting a public officer and possession of an open alcoholic container in his car, state records show.

Other than the pending DWI charges, Lewis does not have a criminal history.

"Maybe the time here will give you a chance to think about where your life is going, sir," Graves told Lewis. "What in the world were you thinking, with a blood alcohol of .25 before 11 in the morning?"

Lewis did not answer.

News researcher Peggy Neal contributed to this report.

[quoteRALEIGH, N.C. — A man is facing death by motor vehicle charges after a fatal single-vehicle crash Saturday morning on Lake Wheeler Road in Raleigh.

According to the state Highway Patrol, Isidro Mendez, 32, was traveling south near Simpkins Road in a 2001 Chevy pickup when he crossed the center line, overcorrected and hit a tree.

Rafael Virrueta, 27, was riding in the vehicle with Mendez and was killed, troopers said.

Troopers said alcohol and speeds of 90 mph in a 35 mph zone were factors in the crash. Other charges against Mendez are pending.

Mendez was treated for minor injures at WakeMed. He was being held Saturday evening in the Wake County jail on an immigration hold.

"Doctor offered plea deal in ballerina's death

Raleigh, N.C. — Wake County prosecutors are offering a plea deal to a Raleigh doctor charged in a DWI wreck that killed a ballerina.

Assistant District Attorney Jeff Cruden said in court Monday morning that the details would remain confidential until Raymond Dwight Cook and his attorney decide whether to accept the deal.

If he rejects the deal, Cruden said the state is prepared to take the case to trial.

Raleigh police said Cook, of 10516 Beckridge Lane, was traveling 90 mph when he crashed into the back of Elena Bright Shapiro's vehicle at Lead Mine and Strickland roads the evening of Sept. 11.

Shapiro, 20, of Winston-Salem, died as a result of the crash.

Cook had been drinking at a local country club and at a local tavern prior to the crash, witnesses said.

Cook, who is out of jail on a $250,000 bond on charges of second-degree murder and driving while impaired, reportedly underwent rehab out of state.

Public records indicate he has a DWI conviction from 1989 in Camden County, Ga., where he pleaded no contest to the charge.

A ballerina with the Carolina Ballet, Shapiro had been in Raleigh rehearsing for "Swan Lake.""

"RALEIGH -- A 53-year-old woman has been charged with driving while impaired, with an open container of alcohol, a small amount of marijuana - and her 4-year-old grandson in the car.

Barbara Jean Hunter of Monk Drive south of Raleigh was charged with misdemeanor child abuse, possession of marijuana up to 1 ounce and having an open container after consuming alcohol, according to records filed at the Wake County Magistrate's Office. She was stopped about 3:15 p.m. Friday by a Wake County sheriff's deputy on Monk Drive.

Arrest records show Hunter told the deputy that in addition to consuming alcohol, she had been smoking marijuana and had also consumed four times the recommended dose of her prescription medication.

Hunter also had an outstanding warrant for her arrest in Durham on charges of failing to appear in court and driving while her license was revoked, court records show. She was supposed to appear in Durham County Court on Thursday.

The deputy reported that Hunter was not "grossly impaired," but he did say that she was "extremely combative" and "uncooperative" during her arrest.

The deputy transported Hunter to the Wake County jail. She was released Saturday after posting an $11,000 bond, court records show.

Hunter could not be reached for comment Saturday afternoon.

There's no real cure for drunk driving, at least not one that society will allow. But a better public transportation system would help. Less reason to take your own car and have to deal with parking issues
