Best part about the XFL was the no fair catch rule on punts. If you don't catch it and the punting team recovers, then it was their ball. Sweet rule if you like to see people get run over. 2/28/2006 4:40:05 PM |

They messed up by showing crappy games on TV. I know its hit or miss but the game on TV would be a blow out no one cares about while other games were going down to the wire. They had some good ideas like someone mentioned before about the coin toss and wasn't the XFL the first to use the overhead camera angle alot????? Id like they had a camera guy on the field in the huddle too 2/28/2006 8:05:23 PM |

yeah, the NBC crews were actually very good. it was NBC that gave us the overhead cam we see used currently by ABC and ESPN.
what really killed the league was having the WWF stigma attached, no media outlets would cover any of the games, they didnt see them as legit.
^ actually...he did call some games. jim ross called atlanta falcons games before he got into wrestling later on.

My buddy bet $1,000 on the LA team one game and won... now thats funny.

I liked the XFL. One of their biggest problems was that they didn't realize there is only so much you can do with football. You can't make it into some kind of NFL Blitz, or "extreme football" becomes "extreme injuries". I just like the idea of football in the spring and a league that doesn't take itself too serious. NFL Europe is too much like the NFL, and its boring and who cares b/c teams arent in USA. I was very young, but I do remember watching USFL. Also seen some on ESPN Classic. It was good football. Problem was, it was trying to compete with NFL rather than just be a lesser league in offseason.
Biggest thing I liked about XFL...I made a lot of money on that shit.
Best play ever for me. They had this rule that you could jam the receivers all the way down the field. Thats the way it used to be way back before the 5-yard rule. Anyway, I saw this rule, and I knew scores would be way down. So, I played a LOT of UNDERS. In week 4 or so, I had teased to UNDERS, 7 points each. Middle of the week, they changed the rule to normal and I teased both OVERS. I had something like 20 points difference in both games, had $200 on each, and won them both, about $400. It was awesome. 3/1/2006 6:41:37 PM |

Main other things I remember. LA had a team and won it all with QB Tommy Maddox, who was league MVP. Of course, I remember HeHateMe, who played for Las Vegas??? Not sure.
First game I remember Bosworth commentary and it came down to a mad scramble trying to get a last second FG to win it. As ball goes through for the win, Boz yells "THIS IS AWESOME!!!!!"
I used to like to hear Jerry Lawler and Jim Ross do the games. That was great. "Ah, dammit King, theres carnage, carnage all over the field". And Lawler would see the cheerleaders and say, "Look, puppies, puppies" about the girls' tits.
Yeah, I guess the league was pretty good after all. 3/1/2006 6:44:48 PM |

I think the lack of an NFL Europe as a developmental league and a less gimmicky product are reasons why this could work.
But I think once you start saying no protesting and no criminal records (He even said a DUI will disqualify) and the approach that this sounds like some sort of moralistic thing will limit your player base.
I think what McMahon is probably really gunning for is to roll 2 teams into the NFL as expansion franchises if it has some success. That way he gets in on that massive NFL money whereas they wouldn't probably just let him buy a team (if he even has the money). NFL owners don't want a Mark Cuban or Al Davis type in the league.1/25/2018 5:40:32 PM |

Yeah I get the no kneeling and no criminals as an obvious appeal to certain people. But it seems like you’re hamstringing the league right out the gate. Who wouldn’t wanna see Johnny Manziel feast on the XFL, for example? As others say. The need for a developmental league is there but stipulations like this aren’t gonna help it get going.
Also it’s to me funny how the original XFL was bad boy rebels. Not so much this time around I guess.
But. If you’re going this route. Why not have one team of heels. All criminals and kneeling guys. That’d be more fun than what they’ve described. 1/25/2018 6:20:57 PM |

I watched part of a game on youtube for nostalgia last night. It was bad!
- Different camera angles all over the place - JR announcing. He said "late arriving Los Angeles crowd" at least 5 times (He was actually entertaining, but I think it would get old quickly) - Cut to a skanky cheerleader in a bikini who said she liked the beach - They had lots of mics on the field that would pick up random player chat. It sounded like something out of a video game.
