i figured it was pretty much the replacement for ice road truckers

sounds like due to the lakes being too warm and new laws banning cameras in trucks (or something) that show is in limbo

i was never a real fan of ice road truckers but this show was pretty bad ass

cant wait to watch again. they only have 3 months to harvest the timber fighting mother nature and very sketchy territory

I wish they went more into who buys the lumber/who owns the land/how far the full loads have to go, etc. I'm sure they will in the future. The driver that quit was funny-so was the guy with the gravelly voice.

have it DVR'd even though I watched the last 20 minutes after The Wire. Looked pretty good.

Watching the trucks drive off reminded me of that brian reagan bit about the lumber trucks passing each other on the highway

I'm hooked on it now (no pun intended about the poor guy who lost his hand)! Those fuckers made a Sherman tank into a rig!

That's a dangerous job. I used to know a girl whose father got killed logging in North Carolina--they say a log slid off a truck somehow and hit him right in the face.

Now are these guys harvesting a tree farm or just plowing through old growth habitat? Being a fan of Deadliest Catch I was curious about this show but didn't want to get pissed off if all it was were brawny men heave-hoeing through lush greenery bragging about how they fell a tree older than this country. >.<

is that what they were getting at? I thought they were just implying that the tank track design is what allowed the yarder to traverse that rough terrain and speed up the logging process.

I think this show was a little boring. it needs to pick up, i'm looking forward to the storm episodes

no tree farms that they have mentioned but they do replant where they log. they work storm damaged terrain too by cutting down fucked up trees and leaners and clearing that mess out. some pretty dangerous places to be doing the type of work they are doing.

that tree that got loose and went flying down the mnt. was pretty cool. i would hate to get hit by one them things moving that fast.

Quote :
"Deep in the woods of the Pacific Northwest, rugged men make their living doing one of the most dangerous jobs in history... Logging. Their mission: to retrieve timber perched on mountainsides too steep to access with machines. But this is no easy task.
For more than a hundred years, larger than life characters, many of whom are members of logging families that go back to the time when the West was being settled, have spent their days among towering trees and powerful machines and their nights in outposts far from the comforts of civilization. AX MEN will tell remarkable stories detailing the history of the logging industry, showing how technology has transformed life for today's logger, while the struggle of man versus nature stays the same.

Over the course of thirteen episodes, AX MEN follows four logging crews through a season in the remote forests of northwest Oregon. Plagued by mechanical failures, relentless weather--including a hurricane that ripped through the area--and violent and unpredictable terrain, these brave men risk their lives retrieving the very timber we depend on to build our country. Snapped cables, runaway logs and treacherous machinery are among the many dangers that threaten their lives and safety everyday. Anything and everything can go wrong on these sites and the price of even the simplest mistake can mean death.

Just watched the first episode last night. Very badass show. I already like it better than Deadliest Catch. Seems there is a lot more that can and will happen in this show than on the others.

Looked pretty cool. Helicopter guy had the right idea, although he might have trouble hiring another pilot after that mix-up with the tree.

i found this show to be unwatchable after listening to the host/voice over guy for 2 minutes.

he's no mike rowe, that's for sure. plus i've just never gotten into any of THC's attempts to emulate deadliest catch

I still don't see why they didn't just have an emergency disconnect on the helicopter.

They probably did. That wouldn't make very good tv if they said "meh, if we can't break it loose we'll just drop it."

Ice Rd Truckers sucked after the first two episodes. I mean, after a while you get tired of seeing that dumbass animation of the truck going through the ice and you want some real action. If this show goes anything like that one I'll be cancelling the DVR subscription asap.

Just more Discovery/TLC-ification of The History Channel. Soon it will be nothing but WWII, UFOs, and a bunch of slack-jawed yokels and their "awesome" blue collar jobs.

"Hey, how about a show about the Punic Wars?"

"Nah, we're rolling out a series about the exciting lives of HVAC technicians!"

^ Sad as it is, I can actually see them doing that. They could find a mummified dead cat in the crawl space or they pull out some duct work and start screaming "MOLD MOLD...MOVE!!!" and then go back in with biohazard suits on.

yep, saw last nights. The characters and job don't hold the intrigue like Deadliest Catch and to some extent Ice Road Truckers. I guess there are too many people and they aren't able to build on 5 guys, instead they take 5 crews and then try to get us to remember that each one has this history and this personality, but it's just too many people to keep track of week to week. If they focused on the main guy on each site more it'd be better, but it's as if they were trying to follow each deck hand on all 5 boats on DC and let them have their own story, instead of the boats story...it wouldn't work well.
