a) i already have my license (a horizontal, normal one)b) i do not want a vertical licensec) in a couple of months, i turn 21.therefore, i am glad i turn 21 in a couple of months
10/4/2008 2:42:11 PM
you made it sound like you were glad you were turning 21 soon because you'd need to upgrade the license. (not a necessity, but some folks do it just to get rid of the yellow bar/trim.)
10/4/2008 2:43:16 PM
oh i'm definitely doing that, i hate that yellow shitthe vertical licenses are only for people under 21 thoughsupposed to help w/ enforcement... i don't really see it...
10/4/2008 2:44:04 PM
Oooooooooooh... Sounds like they're trying to come up with the stupidest things to attempt to crack down on underage drinking.
10/4/2008 2:45:15 PM
other states have been doing this for years.no big deal.
10/4/2008 4:26:28 PM
the original post mentions nothing about these only being for people under 21therefore, FAIL
10/4/2008 4:28:17 PM
they already have the color system, how is this different?
10/4/2008 4:30:15 PM
10/4/2008 4:31:16 PM
it's not. i don't know all the details but do these expire the day someone turns 21? if not, then what's the point?
10/4/2008 4:31:49 PM
all they had to do was pass a law making it illegal to use an under 21 drivers license to buy alcohol even if you had turned 21 since the license was issued.
10/4/2008 4:33:10 PM
EVEN IF IT DIDN'T EXPIRE ON YOUR 21ST, YOU COULD GO TO THE DMV THAT DAY AND GET A LICENSE THAT IS HORIZONAL.
i fail to see how this will help...and i'm a bartenderi'll still have to check the date because, if you're like me and didn't get an updated license when you turned 21, after a while there will be plenty of kids of age that still have their vertical licenseand really, who under 21 is going to show a bartender/doorman/clerk their REAL ID anyway?just make our existing licenses harder to modify/counterfeit, problem addressed.
10/4/2008 4:41:37 PM
THEY MAY MAKE IT ILLEGAL TO SELL TO A VERTICAL KID THOUGH.HORIZONTALS ONLY HERE.
10/4/2008 4:46:26 PM
oh shit this sucks!!! oh wait, i turn 27 next month
10/4/2008 4:46:33 PM
I'll be 22 in Nov and my license states 'Under 21' and I see no need to change it until 2011 when it expires, people are looking at the date, not the way the license is made - I am required to get mine changed though in the next month or so considering I have a restriction for glasses and after LASIK, I shouldn't have to wear them, god damn them for taking my money X.XI think this is just a waste of money redoing the cards and a waste of time, but whatever works.

I'm from Virginia, and I have a vertical license. I turned 21 in July, but I still have the vertical license. The next time I renew it, I'll get a horizontal one. I think I remember reading somewhere that North Carolina is adopting a similar policy.
10/4/2008 4:56:20 PM
ya fucking think
10/4/2008 4:59:18 PM
........
10/4/2008 4:59:48 PM
Notice the turns 21 on 'xxx' date in the red bar. I think that's a bigger deal than the verticalness. The vertical shit is probably just to make it easier to notice the red bar.

The best way to cut down on underage drinking is to lower the drinking age......
