I personally think it has a Yogi Bera(sp) quality to it that I like. Example: "No one goes to that restaurant anymore, its too crowded"

But what really makes the line quote worthy is that I think it sums up the pro-FDA argument in a concise and funny way. Here is the less concise version of what agent said: If your product kills people, peope wont buy it because they are dead. Sure, reputation of the product's lethal nature might spread, but how many bodies will we have to bury before we catch on (establishing cause and effect is harder than you think)? And will it be in time to catch and punish those those that sold the deadly product (this is required if you want to establish a disincentive for selling deadly snake-oil and skipping town)? Surely there are better ways to go about this than hoping "the market" will work it out.

For God's sake, it's not one of my jokes. I don't like it now and I didn't like it when I heard it.

I was responding to a person who, as best I could tell, was attempting to tell that "joke" and botched the delivery, such as it is.

It's not my brand of humor -- not because of the racism, but because it's a shitty pun. But if someone is going to tell a terrible joke, they should at least get it right.

My prediction is that many soap boxers will disregard any such explanation. Fine. But I think that the larger portion of my posts in this forum indicate that, for all my numerous faults, I am at least above humor that relies on puns.

I thought the swine flu joke was mildly amusing and not at all racist. It wasn't knee-slapping funny, but most jokes aren't.

I do think its funny some folks quote Samuel Johnson as puns being the lowest form of wit. Personally, I figure if it's good enough for Bill Shakespeare and Oscar Wilde, it's good enough for the rest of us.

So quit acting like you're above everyone because you made an A- in Western World Lit.

I don't know who said it originally, but he/she was correct. Puns are weak humor that require little to no originality. The highest form of humor is spontaneous or impromptu humor that requires the individual to create a bridge or connection between topics on their feet without any help.
