http://www.usatoday.com/travel/flights/2009-01-26-us-airways-river-crash_N.htm
Quote : | "Many US Airways (LCC) passengers who endured a crash landing in the Hudson River 12 days ago say they appreciate the $5,000 that the airline has offered — but some say it's not enough. Joe Hart, a salesman from Charlotte who suffered a bloody nose and bruises, says he "would like to be made whole for the incident."
It's too soon after the accident to determine what emotional distress he has suffered, he says.
...
The National Air Disaster Alliance & Foundation, a safety advocacy group, says $5,000 is not enough.
"We're grateful everyone survived, and the captain on the plane was so marvelous," says Gail Dunham, the group's executive director. "But passengers lost luggage, briefcases, cellphones, BlackBerrys and business documents, and went through a terrific ordeal."
...
US Airways Vice President Jim Olson says that an insurance claims specialist is contacting passengers and that they'll be reimbursed for expenses or losses above $5,000.
The airline wants to ensure no passenger is "losing money for the inconvenience or anything lost during the accident," he says.
...
In addition to recovering losses, Hart says he's concerned about having trouble flying. He's flown on six planes since the accident, and each flight has gotten "progressively more difficult."
He says he was tense, sweated and "felt every bit of turbulence" on a Los Angeles-to-Philadelphia flight last week, though it wasn't that turbulent a flight.
...
Kreindler & Kreindler, a New York law firm that has represented plaintiffs in crashes, says it has been contacted by several passengers on the US Airways flight.
The firm's lawyers are determining what injuries and emotional distress passengers may have suffered, and what parties might be liable under New York state law, says Noah Kushlefsky, a partner in the firm. " |
After we're done with the lawyers, we should also kill the idiots who think there has to be someone to blame for what was just a freak accident.
At least the good news is that 3 out of 4 NC residents aren't greedy litigious assholes.1/27/2009 8:53:12 PM |

What the fuck? One guy has already flown 6 times since the accident?
You'd think after surviving a fucking plane crash when all the odds are stacked against you, in the midst of a shit hole of an economy, you'd consider yourself one lucky SOB. God damn. I'd love to meet these people and tell them what kinda suck fucks they are. 1/27/2009 9:01:12 PM |

I imagine the people who post crap like this are the same type of people to fuck the system when given the chance.

honestly how boring is it to point towards something where you already know what people's reactions are going to be?
"OMG, THEY'RE TRYING TO GAME THE SYSTEM, HOW DO YOU FEEL?"

^lottery fallacy.
Thanks for posting this 1337, I think it's a pretty well balanced article. The airlines saying they will reimburse passengers for lost items and time on top of the 5000 is the fair and right thing to do. The only real validity I could see in a lawsuit, is if someone suffered an injury (mental or physical) and US Air wouldn't cough up for treatment.
On the flip side, it looks like a few knuckleheads are going to get suit-happy with it and try to cash in a quick buck, which really is a shame. 1/27/2009 9:43:18 PM |

Its not the first time a flock of seagulls caused emotional distress...
but that doesn't mean I have grounds to sue the band. 1/27/2009 9:52:05 PM |

Id be more likely to blow the pilot than sue him. (though I must say both are unlikely) 1/27/2009 10:32:49 PM |

People should probably wait for a detailed report of what happened to cause this wreck before they hold US Air harmless.
If I were a passenger on that plane I wouldn't sign away my right to sue until I knew the full facts of the case.

Agreed. Regardless, these guys have spoken out too quickly, burning public sympathy and making themselves look like greedy opportunists. They should wait to see what the final insurance settlement is and what the final FAA investigation finds before talking about suing. If you're going to try and be opportunistic, at least time it right so that you look on the surface as if you've given the airlines a fair shake. 1/28/2009 2:41:54 AM |

More greed, NC residents are now 3 for 5 being grateful that they're still alive to complain about getting only $5,000 to start and free upgrades for a year. 1/30/2009 11:14:12 PM |
