Say what you want about Keanu, but the man always delivers in his action movies. So, here he is again back at it as a former hit man brought out of retirement because... somebody killed his dog. Not really a classic tagline, but it sounds like fun. The trailer looks pretty decent IMO, lots of live action scenes and a killer supporting cast. Although, I am a little unsure about this director as it his basically his directorial debut. So, a few things that I am hoping for:

Live action scenes and lots of them. I think that this is basically a dying art these days as it has become more feasibly to just use a little shaky cam and CGI. So, just gimme lots of Keanu kickin' ass and then cheesing it up with his classic deadpan delivery (DRIVE.... fast).

Dare I say, the Dutch angle? This to me has always been a very efficient way of symbolizing the transformation of nice guy to killer hit man, and I always enjoy it when it is done correctly.

What I am not hoping for: NO MORE SHAKY CAM! This trend has been beaten to death and is hardly ever done correctly (Alex Cross...ugh).

Trailer looks decent, dont think i would pay to go see it in the theater though. Also generally not a great sign when the first I've ever heard of a movie is just a month before it is released.

The thread for Dredd on here was started 7 months before it's release, and I went to see it in the theater, and yes it is 100% awesome, but I don't think these 2 are exactly comparable. I agree that the trailer looks good for this.

Yeah, but Dredd is part of a franchise, and any mention of it at Comic-Con or whatever is gonna draw attention. But, I do believe that the marketing campaign for Dredd had a low budget because the majority of the dough was eaten up by the film itself, and the producers just figured that they would not have to over-market a Dredd movie to garner interest. I am guessing that it is the same logic here since Reeves is a certifiable action guy.

Yeah, so this film does not come out in Germany until the very end of January 2015...

I am considering flying to Sweden to see it, because there it still comes out in October. I guess that makes for a good excuse for a day trip...right?

New Trailer out featuring a little more dialogue than the first. I really get the vibe that Keanu is pulling some inspiration from his Jack in Speed based off some of the newer footage. I dunno, just my two cents. Also, they are really pushing the lore of John Wick more in this trailer.

Well, it is already certified fresh on RT and literally every credible voice out there is saying that this film is worth your time. Now, that is not an attempt to hype it up (IMO), more so to insure ppl that it is worth the ticket price to check it out if you are in to action films.


I have also read that the camera angles in this film were exceptional, and that there is no shaky cam ( which is a huge plus).

i watched it this afternoon. It was good, not great. Definitely not on the same level as the best lower budget hard R action movies of the last few years such as The Raid and Dredd, but still enjoyable. I give it a B-

I think it could have benefited from pushing the envelope a little more. It already had the R rating, they could have thrown in some memorable kills, or a little more gore from the bullet hits.

Just got back. Really liked it. Don't expect Shakespeare or anything. It's a well-tuned take on a formula we've seen a thousand times. But, this movie was really stylish, action was great, and Keanu nailed the part. Hard not to recommend.

Really great film. I think that its stenghs and weaknesses come from the fact that it was a straight on full throttle action film without any secondary subplots or developing themes

I really like the flow of it and that it doesn't seem to drag on in between action scenes. Judging this one against The Raid 2, one advantage that John Wick has is that the world building and action are seamlessly spliced together.

I mean I don't know what kind of ending you expected if you thought it was terrible. Very few action movies have the last fight scene be the best one (with the exception of maybe the Raid/Raid 2). The ending was what it needed to be, we found out a little bit more information about how the hotel works, he gets his revenge, the end.

I got on a John Wick kick where whenever I saw it on Cinemax I would watch. Probably saw the move 10 times if you add up all the segments. Just a great action flick, I'm real excited for the sequel.
