my cousin thinks we'll know who will win within the first 10 minutes. says if we can stay ahead that UNC won't have the conditioning to keep up with us the entire game. also Luke Maye is the key.

looking at the stats, this is going to be a really great, high scoring game.

Haha this honestly feels like the NCSU football game against Clemson.

We're getting a ton of hype despite a weak schedule. Couple of good wins but no bad losses.

Then we lose and everything goes to shit haha.

I haven’t watched them much but they’ve got 9 guys averaging at least 12 mins/game. And a 10th guy averaging 10 mins. That’s not going 6-7 deep. Roy always has a deep bench and due to their depth and pace, they usually don’t have conditioning issues

^ nah. We may lose but I disagree on the comparison. We were 17 point dogs to Clemson. Really only State fans thought we could win. And I’m hindsight, at Death Valley vs this Clemson team...we never had a shot. This game is different. UNC isn’t the behemouth that Clemson is. It’s at home. Our basketball team is actually good. And we favored, slightly.

They don't really have a dominant post scorer, or an elite point guard. It's basically a team of wings that can all run the floor and get hot from beyond the arc on any given night. Markell is the x-factor, if he plays an efficient game I like our chances.

and then we get UVA (2) after Clemson. i'm not saying we'll win the next 5 games between UNC and UVA, but all 6 are very winnable. @ND, @UL, Clemson will all be tough games in particular, but games I think we should probably win. it's probably too much to expect us to be 7-0 in ACC play going into the UVA game, but something like 6-1 isn't unreasonable. lose tonight, and it's probably more like 5-2 (which is still really good). but we've got a chance to get another statement win, this one against a big rival that has caused us fits in the past. and then we have a chance to continue a nice little win streak and cement ourselves as one of the ACC contenders and a very legit top 15 or better team. now...we aren't on the same level as Duke or UVA this year (don't know enough about FSU or VT honestly) but this season - and in particular the next stretch of ~5 ACC games is a chance for us to break through the middle class of the ACC like we haven't really done in a long time. win tonight, and it's not totally crazy to think we could be off to a 18-1 type start.

yeah...i'm probably sipping the kool-aid kinda heavy here. none of that is remotely guaranteed and losing tonight won't mean we can't still get on a nice win streak. but there's a chance for us to climb in the polls (which really matters only for perception and national recognition at this point) and then continue to climb for the next 3 weeks.

exciting times ahead in MBB, i believe.

I wasn't saying it's like the Clemson game in the sense that UNC is a 17-point favorite or the home team, I pretty clearly stated why it felt like that to me.

Right now we're 13-1 and ranked 15.
At the time football was 5-0 and ranked 16.

The biggest knock on our basketball team right now is our SOS, we have a couple of good wins but no bad losses.
The biggest knock on our football team then was our SOS, they had a couple of good wins(BC without Dillon and UVA) but no losses.

Right now our team has a ton of buzz and this is a huge ACC clash of ranked teams and we're trying to establish ourselves. I'd argue that's how football felt as well, ranked match-up and we've been close to Clemson for a few years and could never quite get over the hump.

I never said anyone expected our football team to win, but there was a lot of buzz about our team in general and people thought we'd be competitive. Once we lost it didn't matter so much what our record was, it sucked a lot of the hype out of the program and it took a bit to recover from it(though Wake put a nail in the season from a rankings perspective).

I think a win over UNC would be GREAT for momentum, great for our resume, and it would just be more positive buzz for the program. I also think a loss, particularly a bad one, would be very deflating and would take a little bit to recover from.

I get it and I recognize the similarities, I do. I’m saying I disagree because us vs UNC is a matchup of equals by most metrics. This is much clearer in hindsight, but we were so outmatched vs Clemson we never had a shot.

Along those lines, an interesting difference I notice this year is that its kind of the reverse of most years. A lot of times the fans will have high expectations and high optimism but the national media and polls and general public think we’re unproven. We’ll complain that we’re underrated. It almost feels like right now in basketball the fans are saying “how good are we really?” and the media and general public seem to think we’re really good. Not that the fans think we are bad, but most the fans I see and talk to are still kinda just cautiously optimistic

This is where I am at, and it's a really weird place to be in. I am ready to be all in on KK and this team. But talent wise, we shouldn't be as good as we are. But Kevin Keatts is a winner. So I am cautiously optimistic.

^^ in the past we’ve had big recruiting classes coming in that got the fan base really excited and elevated expectations. This year expectations weren’t ridiculously high due to all the roster turnover. So it’s like it’s taking the fans a while to adjust expectations to reality (or what we hope is reality) while the national media is already buying in. Definitely a weird place to be in.

this is the best team we've had since 2004, imo, and definitely a better coach/scheme. seen so much out of good come from this team that I've never witnessed in my lifetime as a State fan. I think we win decisively tonight. maybe I'm wrong (and history certainly isn't on my side) but I think we're going to come out fighting with a ridiculous atmosphere and that UNC isn't looking at this like another "oh we'll just go in and smash the wolpies" as they have in the past.

Also, I found a ticket to the game. My friend's toddler beat out all of the other toddlers at halftime during the Primtime with the Pack night or whatever so he got four tickets. We aren't sure if they're any good or not until we pick them up from will call, but I'm pumped nonetheless.

^i like the optimism! It feels good thinking that not only is it possible we win but we have a real shot at winning without needing a bananas performance from Al Freeman or CC Harrison. No need for moral victories or “we kept it closer than I thought”. We may lose and that’s ok, they’re a good team too so losing to them isn’t a terrrible thing itself. But it feels like we’re on equal footing with them this year. Maybe we get embarrassed tonight. I dunno. But it feels good to be in such a positive place in basketball!
