Why don't we just move Painter's family close to State?
Or we could move State closer to his family. 4/11/2012 6:03:28 PM |

Damn Fire. Kinda fucked up.
This hurts right now, but won't be a big deal if CJL comes back and TDT and Vandy step up. It's a positive if we can give the extra scholly to a solid big who will be here for more than a year (since that's what Painter had left). We had a max exodus of bigs leaving next year with Howell/Painter/CJL...this will space those schollies out a bit. 4/11/2012 6:12:35 PM |

Good GOD.
wtf is happening?
then again all of these guys getting out the way and having elite players come in would be nice.
harris was just too small for his position IMO. Never really was a huge fan of his game.
I'd prefer to have all these elite athletes. 4/11/2012 6:26:20 PM |

If we can bring in a decently sized guy who can rebound even a little and has even one post move, we should be fine. For whatever Painter brought, his love of 16 footers usually amounted to 3-4 turnovers per game since there was never anybody to rebound them. This Young kid seems to meet that description, Oriakhi would, Jefferson would, or maybe we could grab a transfer. Again, it sucks, but it's not like we're screwed. 4/11/2012 6:36:05 PM |

It could be that all of a sudden guys like Raymond and Harris see the type of guys we are recruiting now. They figure best to move on now when they have plenty of time to play elsewhere than wait and see what happens and maybe be at best limited minute roll players. This only works out though if we fill their spots with better recruits with the hype we have going right now. 4/11/2012 6:38:54 PM |

Raymond yes, but Harris was actually a legitimate recruit who WOULD get playing time no matter who we bring in. Especially with both Howell and Leslie 100% leaving after next year.4/11/2012 6:42:53 PM |

Well that was based on the assumption we continue to recruit this way and while it seems that way now if we start adding burger boys regularly maybe that spot gets filled by someone younger but better. 4/11/2012 6:46:36 PM |

I, for one, am not counting on adding burger boys on the regular. It'd be great, but I'm certainly not expecting it. Please don't go Harris.

I don't think anyone was REALLY serious about that. Painter was a large contributor to a Sweet 16 team. I would like to think we have an intelligent enough fanbase that the Vandy stuff is just a joke and they don't legitimately expect him to ever be a big-time contributor.
Painter was a guy who could average 9-10 points a game at an ACC level...4/11/2012 9:26:51 PM |

There was seriously no category where Painter was good on our team.
Leslie scores better. Howell rebounds better. Painter had no niche other than being a warm body. With the guys we have coming in or stepping up, we at least have the chance to replace Painter's minutes with someone who can excel at something.
I'd prefer to have someone who is really good at one thing rather than really poor at everything.
Since we are growing up as a program, Painter-type players are not the ones we want having much playing time.

To even come close to Howell, he would have to improve more than he ever has over any offseason. Leslie and Howell never improved as much as Painter needs to in order to become a good player. So, it's not going to happen for painter.

maybe his niche was a solid role-playing 6th man, and our only big guy good enough to relieve howell and leslie when they inevitably got into foul trouble (or started cramping)? warren might be great, but i don't think he'll be able to give solid minutes at the 4/5 in his freshman season.4/11/2012 9:55:58 PM |

Warren is a 3. He came to NC State because we refcruited him to play the 3, unlike UNC which saw him as a 4.
Harris, TDT & maybe Jefferson will back up Leslie.
Vandenberg & maybe Young will back up Howell.

It's really sad that Painter as a senior won't be close to being starter-level -- not even as good as Howell or Leslie when they were freshmen.
Since we are only talking about the 6th man, it's certainly worth it to roll the dice to see if we can get something better. It's not like we are losing a lot. Hell, if we replace Painter with Leslie or Howell as a freshman, that's an improvement.
Out of Warren, Harris, Amile, Vandy (unlikely), TDT (ehh), one of them has to be as good as Leslie or Howell when they were freshmen. 4/11/2012 10:11:37 PM |

^^^^ well, how many subs do you need in the post? Last year we used 1, for about 20 minutes per game. Leslie and Howell are gonna play 30 min per game each. I'm sure that Gott can cover those other 20 min with the combined forces of Vandy, Harris, TDT, and whatever recruit we sign this spring.

painter never played the post... he played 15 foot jumpers... and committed the dumbest fucking and 1 fouls ever.
i saw times he let rebounds go through his hands and hit him in the face like a 3rd grader picked last in gym class
the worst thing though that always sparked me doing the traditional "im laughing it off but im pissed as shit" was his back being turned dozens of times when he was the 'help defense' in that situation...
this guy was dumb as shit is the bottom line. he just looked black, athletic, tall/big and hit a couple jump shots so people think he's worth a solid 6th man role at nc state. OK guys. OK 4/11/2012 10:21:07 PM |
