I don’t think they were particularly unfair. He may not have got much speaking time, but due to his polling status, and his ideas, he got what I think is fair. He certainly should have gotten to speak before Steyer, though.

I don't view the Twitter conclusion as an accurate way to view the data in that graph. I believe it incorrectly identifies the relationship in the graph. Your polling should not dictate airtime. Polling tends to rise with your airtime. I'd say the graph shows Yang is overperforming based on the airtime (driver for candidates awareness and recognition) rather than say his polling warrants more airtime.

If I worked for the campaign, I would leverage that data to say we can disproportionately increase our polling as compared to others if we score more airtime, rather than say we poll this high and thus deserve x airtime, and draw an us vs. the establishment segregation. One approach provides a strategy and attempt to do better with less, while the other builds passionate walls that strengthen a limited base rather than expanding a base.

speaking time at debates is also on the candidate, they have to find ways to squeeze themselves into conversations and not just wait politely to be called upon

did you see him on the breakfast club last week? they were trying to tee him up to talk about issues and what did he come up with besides UBI? Robocalls. That was the best he could do despite very friendly hosts who seemed to be doing their best to get him to talk about other issues.
