Was anyone discussing Obama’s foreign policy before you brought it up? The discussion was regarding the current president referring to other countries as shitholes, which, to my knowledge, former president Obama never did.

For what it’s worth, I, personally, didn’t vote to re-elect Obama, due to his administration’s bombing campaigns. That being said, didn’t the Trump administration rescind the Obama administration’s policy of limiting civilian casualties overseas?

I do not consider it 'racist' to accept immigrants that are skilled or educated, anymore than it is racist for colleges and universities to look at applicants qualifications prior to admission. There is nothing wrong with setting high bars for immigrants coming into this country. Other European countries do the exact same thing. We cannot make it a priority to take in folks that will require government assistance/aid.

The statue of liberty is a poem. It isn't doctrine or law. So, no. We have practiced restrictive immigration for a long time. I think pretty much all of the EU does, as well. We are not alone.

I commented because I have seen this belief fostered throughout this discussion that somehow everyone is welcome to come stay in the U.S. I don't care if you are European/Haitian/African... If you want to live in this country, you need to bring skills with you and be employable as a general rule. Obviously, there are plenty of circumstances that those rules won't be enforced due to humanitarian reasons. But it isn't enough to just want to come and live here.

Ireland was in great shape in the 1850’s when my family came to the USA and all of my relatives were well skilled and did not form gangs and whatnot.

Same for the Hungarians in the early 1900’s. They came over bc everything was fine. My great great grandfather def did not lie to get into the country.
