Why would anyone sit on a wait list for months to buy a car from a volatile start-up when they could buy a similar car for cheaper from a reliable manufacturer? Additionally, why would anyone invest in a company that cant turn a profit and whose CEO calls their questions "boneheaded" and goes on "fake news" rants on Twitter? Musk is a con artist and people are starting to catch on.

^ Those cars don't exist yet, so you've kind of got a lot of assumptions baked into that prediction. Having a car that can travel easily from say, Raleigh to Atlanta practically is the strongest reason to buy a Tesla. Tesla still has a pretty good brand image, people will invest just for that.

The autopilot has a LONG way to go: while driving as a human you see 2nd and 3rd order consequences. A car merging in front of the car you are following and slamming on breaks. You'll know to slow down way before the autopilot notices a speed change of the car in the lead. Going around corners it has tons of blind spots, sometimes mistaking a parked car for one in your lane. A friend said, "You're basically trusting your life to the photoshop magic wand".

Because of the product? Yeah. That's got to be it.

Has anyone tried to find the "similar" aka ANY EV cars in NC? 90% of them are only sold in the states with higher gas efficiency requirements. I see all the ev cars except Lead and Bolt shown off by the old manufacturers and go to look for them and see "only sold in x, y, z states"

^^ not saying his argument is correct or not (because I don't know), but he did clearly says this:

"Tesla is done when all of the new, comparable, cheaper EVs come out in 2019/2020."

IOW, you won't find them now.

Which is phrased in the current tense.

I meant it as in the future, my bad. Not saying Teslas are a bad buy right now.

If you want style, at the moment then Tesla is your only choice. Though, the Model 3 doesn't look that great from some angles, and the Model X looks horrible...from all angles.

The Chevy Bolt is THE only affordable EV on the market right now (with a realistic vehicle range).

That is a valid and fair criticism of Tesla’s history to date.”"

Given the amount of short selling, it's not a ludicrous thought.

"According to Musk's email, the unnamed employee claimed he had become disgruntled after failing to receive a promotion. However, the Tesla CEO also suggested the alleged saboteur could have been working with short sellers, oil and gas companies—whom he described as "sometimes not super nice"—or "the multitude of big gas/diesel car company competitors." Of this last group, Musk reminded his employees that, since the traditional OEMs have been known to cheat emissions tests, "maybe they're willing to cheat in other ways.""

so a company that forces purchasers of their autonomous cars and microgrid systems to allow them to make code updates at any time also has lax enough security that a single employee can make malicious code changes to multiple systems, and the CEO of that company thinks it is smart to announce as much on twitter?

First proper competitor to the Model X, the Jaguar I-Pace, races the Model X 100D and P100D:

I really don't understand how those cars are called SUVs.

^ there might be one or two more, but i can't recall any.

one thing is for sure though: 1.x can only be achieved (within reason) by EVs. not that anybody needs a car like that or anything.

Used market seems horrifying, especially the ones in that price range. You can get a P85D for $70K and occasionally in the mid $60K range.

I haven't seen a 1 to 2 year S for less that $70k, even the smallest battery, which is comparable to the old 85kwh.

^ AP1 was better until March this year. AP2 has mostly caught up, with the exception of the display not distinguishing between a motorcycle and a car.

I drove autopilot 2 early version and it was pretty terrible, borderline unusable.

I went to the Tesla dealership in CLT over the weekend to check out the Model 3. My wife asked me if I really wanted one (my lease is about to end in 3 mo). As much as I love tech stuff, I just can't justify spending $45k on a 1st gen model; especially an electric car.

The interior is pretty blah, but the Model 3 and X are fucking awesome.

being blah is a side effect of the interior being so minimalist. We're conditioned to having all kind of buttons an vents and shit everywhere.

I imagine it would be an adjustment even for those who like it.

My neighbor has a black one with the same wheels, I don't dig it. That color (any other color probably) looks much better with those wheels. White would be best.

So far so good. I follow reddit and tmc forums fairly closely and have seen the horror stories. With the speed they are producing cars I don’t doubt issues will arise. I’ve been lucky so far and all panel gaps are fairly minor. Can take more pics if people are interested.
